As you may know that this movie is getting a lot of "attention" from North Korea. Even to the extent that the country may be "responsible" for a recent cyber attack/breach of Sony and may be behind upcoming threats when the movie comes out.

So, for those that carry...

The most important is to decide in what conditions and to what extent will you become "involved"
What this means is are you just defending yourself and family (run and get away). Do you defend those around you? Do you take it active defense and engage the BG?

Now when you see a movie.
Do you find yourself changing seats from center middle to one different for a better defensive position?
Near the door or further away?

Has it even occurred to you to think about where you are seated? For me depending on when we get to the theater... we don't have a lot of choices. Basically find a seat where it's open and where my wife wants to sit.

BUT... do you pay attention to where the exit doors are? How close people are to you?
What kind of access you have to your firearm in a seated position?

Shoot and No shoot scenarios?
Shooting positions for self defense? What would you do if when folks in a panic are running in front of you?

And lastly, do you carry a flashlight?

Some things to think about if you haven't thought of these things (especially if you plan on seeing this movie).

Sounds like the ravings of an impotent madman

If I ever pay movie theater prices to see something featuring Seth Rogen, I hope someone has the good sense to punch me in the twat. And not in a good way.

P.S. I've always evaluated seating options with tactical considerations in mind, that isn't changing. And yes on the flashlight, but that's been the MO for a long time. Aurora was as instructive as it was horrific.

Okay... good one to remember and tuck away for future use. :thumbsup2:
Note to self... remember to punch mislabeled in the twat (if she pays and sees a Seth Rogen film). :ROFLMAO:

As for tactical considerations? What in specifics?

Any other "hints" for those newer to carry (in theater or generally)...

Yes on flashlight with strobe.

I rarely select seats with exit strategy as first priority.

In case of active shooter/BG situation, I'm taking the course of action that results in the greatest chance of survival for A) my kids, B) my SO, and C) myself, in that order.

If those actions mean I end up engaging the BG, so be it. But that's not my primary concern.

So some scenarios...

If a shooter comes in from the entrance... shooting or from an exit door...

Most common reaction from folks will be to run away from the shooter. This will create a bottleneck on the otherside.

If you find yourself seated on the otherside... (note to self)... you will be flooded with people coming at you.

Conversely, if you are near the side of the shooter - people will scatter. Both can and may give you advantages depending on your intent.

When faced with a flood of people... confusing and dashing all around. May make for a difficult shot at the BG... distance and people in your way will influence your ability to act.

When you are closer... quick assessment and action may result. But again you may not have time to react...

Another factor is who are you with? Kids, older adults, friends that also carry? Those can influence your decision to act and what your action may be.

We all come from different situations and abilities.

If you are from a "family". It might be a good idea to make it clear to your spouse to take the kids and run as you defend the retreat with them. And of course having a "rally point" for a family is always a good idea.

I always make it a point to park a bit further away (because I hate people waiting for a close parking) and I need to walk more (loss weight). But the benefit is that my car is typically a good distance away from the entrance, which for me is a good rally point to meet after and if we become separated.

I'm with cycle61. Engagement isn't the goal -- survival is.

This piece over at SOFREP -- http://sofrep.com/9657/navy-seal-lessons-learned-aurora-colorado-survive/ -- has some great perspective on theater scenarios in particular (since that's what your post mentioned). Brandon Webb knows far more about tactical advantages and considerations than I do.

Another piece that may have useful information is from Active Response Training -- http://www.activeresponsetraining.net/active-shooter-in-a-movie-theater

Figure out what makes sense for your own skill level, comfort level, family/friend situation, the threat level as you perceive it, your available tool set, etc.

Top row, middle seats. Most importantly because the view is best from there, but you also have a good vantage point of both entrances.

Quote:
When at sporting events, concerts, and the movies, choose seats that give you a tactical advantage always. What do I mean? Choose seats that allow good and east vantage points and a hasty exit point. Always stack the odds in your favor. It’s the reason I still combat park (back in to a space) and sit with my back to the wall when I’m eating.

Quote:
Flashlight anyone? I have one for daily carry and take it everywhere with me. It’s become another extension of me and has diffused at least two potentially violent confrontations in a non-lethal way. I recommend the Surefire P2X Fury Dual Output LED.

The flashlight he recommends has a flaw for defense lights.
It's sequence is low, low and then high. WTF! I have had many lights and for a self defense light... this is not the sequence one should look for. I do like a light that has a low and high but not in that sequence. In stress I want to push that once and be on HIGH... not flick through a few clicks while I'm trying to operate a light and a firearm... heck just a light under stress would be enough.

So I would recommend a different light. Plus the size for an EDC light is twice as large as I like to carry or recommend to folks.

Quote:
The Fury is activated with a click-type tailcap switch: press for momentary-on low, press further to click constant-on low; return to off and press or click on again within two seconds for high.

And if you have not been to a movie for a "bit"

Do know that most popular movie theaters make it a point to have off/on duty LEO present for most busy times. Some do screen so one way to avoid inspection is not call attention to yourself (how you dress and what/how you carry).

Some do have metal detector wands... Remember its legal for you to carry but it's also legal for them to ask you to leave (if found carrying... legally).

But the theater down the street in Lacey has a no gun sign. So I should be safe right?

Even safer now that 594 is in effect

Well since we now have 594, no gun signs, and some theaters are refusing to show this. I want to see it.

Fuck theaters.

Overpriced tickets.

Overpriced half gallon of ice cubes with a spash of GMO corn syrup carbonated parts cleaner on top called a soft drink.

Overpriced half gallon of GMO corn topped with recycled motor oil that has "butter" flavoring. WTF ?

Butter never tasted like that witches brew of chemicals used to create the "butter" movie experience.

TSA screening before going into cramped airline seats that haven't been cleaned since Christ was a cowboy.

Old spooge, BO, farts, boogers, acres of dandruff, grease, and bugs.

I am supposed to pay for that ?

Fuck it all - wait for Netflix to release it.

My movie experience ?

Big screen tv at home, my favorite chair, booze in my coffee, organic popcorn out of the air popper slathered with melted butter, and bacon bits.

Priceless.

Oh yeah, almost forgot - the arsenal at hand with no issues.

Come on down there, Jong - ill, to my version of The Caliber Is Right.

I will fix you up with something by the mag load just to make sure.

Sony and netflix don't have a great relationship. More interested in American Sniper anyway. Doubt I'd actually go. Probably wait til DVD.

Yeah, should have qualified that as well. Almost all movie comedy is worthless. Won't even rent it to watch.

I still get the dvd's sent by mail - not gonna tie up bandwidth to stream movies.

Or, I go to the big box stores, and look for the good stuff from 5 years ago on sale for $3.99, and snap them up.
