Moving? Get WA license
By law, you have 30 days to get your Washington driver license once you establish residency in Washington State.

How to establish residency in Washington
You’re considered a Washington resident when you do any of the following:
Arrive and begin establishing a home in Washington.
Receive state benefits.
Get any Washington State license at resident rates.
Receive in-state tuition fees.

As per the AG via the Department of Licensing, Firearm program:
Quote:
On behalf of the Attorney General Robert M. McKenna, thank you for your inquiry received October 19, 2012. Your inquiry was forwarded to me for response. I represent the Department of Licensing, Firearm program. In your inquiry you ask if for a person who has established residency, and acquired a WA drivers license, does this individual also need to hold residency for 90 days, or can they apply for the permit essentially immediately?

To apply for a concealed carry license as a resident, you must bring your 90 day proof of residency when you apply, therefore you can not apply before having your 90 day proof.

You can find all the requirements to apply for a Washington firearm permit at Washington Department of Licensing’s website, including documents you’ll need at: http://www.dol.wa.gov/business/firearms ... alreq.html. You may also contact the Department of Licensing, Firearms Unit for general information. You may reach them at 360-664-6616 or by e-mail at firearms@dol.wa.gov.

Sincerely,
SUSAN L. PIERINI
Assistant Attorney General

Meh. When I went in and applied, and it was a drivers license. I didn't need to bring in utility bills, proof of longer residency etc.

Like I said a few posts ago. Forget the AG, go apply.

Agreed. Just do it. The worst that is going to happen is they will tell you to come back in 90 days.

From the very link she gave, and this is the very part she got the 90 days statement from!

If you don’t have a Washington State driver license or ID card, you must provide proof you have lived in the state for at least the last 90 days.
She is right. You have to wait 90 days.

IF you don’t have a Washington State driver license or ID card. She gave her interpretation of what she read. And either she didn't read it very well at all, or she intentionally interpreted it that way because of her own opinions. Typical beaurocrat.

If you have a washington DL, then go apply.

Great write-up, oldkim!

My CPL arrived in the mail today. It was so easy to get I'm kicking myself for having procrastinated this long. Just walk in, show ID, get your fingerprints done, and it arrived 3 days later. Applied on 12/17, arrived in the mail today, the 20th. I've never gotten any problems while OCing here in Skagit, but now that I can carry concealed I'm sure I'll carry a lot more often. :)

It's kind of an awkward size and pretty flimsy. Do you guys laminate yours?

Thats got to be some kind of record...

I believe some folks trim the permit down a bit so its more accommodating to their wallet, but I left mine as it were.

Yea, didn't expect it to arrive until next year. I went in late in the day on Monday too. It was a welcome surprise! :rockout:

I applied for mine at the Redmond PD on December 27th. I got there at 0915, and 4 hours later, I finally walked out. And I was the last one they were going to be able to do that day. My time in the Marines has gotten me used to waiting....

I went down to the sheriff's office this morning to fill out the CPL paperwork (Camano Island). Found out they only do them twice a month. 1st and 3rd Thursday night between 5 and 7 pm. I'll have to wait until next week.

If you are wondering why I don't have one, it's because I don't carry my .44. Too difficult to conceal a .44 mag with a 7 1/2" barrel

But I bought a Sig. p226 today, should be here in about a week.... that I will carry.

I also realize the value of a CPL here a WAGuns.

thanks

This is not true.

RCW 9.41.070 reads: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=9.41.070

Quote:
(1) The chief of police of a municipality or the sheriff of a county shall within thirty days after the filing of an application of any person, issue a license to such person to carry a pistol concealed on his or her person within this state for five years from date of issue, for the purposes of protection or while engaged in business, sport, or while traveling. However, if the applicant does not have a valid permanent Washington driver's license or Washington state identification card or has not been a resident of the state for the previous consecutive ninety days, the issuing authority shall have up to sixty days after the filing of the application to issue a license. The issuing authority shall not refuse to accept completed applications for concealed pistol licenses during regular business hours.

Fill out the application and print of the RCW and go back and simply ask that the sheriff follow the law. While some departments try to say they only take applications on certain days and/or finger prints. They have no right to do so.

Thanks for this info. Thursday nights aren't convenient for me so that's what I'll do. Although, last thing I want is to get on the Sheriff's bad side...this is a small community. but hey I didn't write the law, right! And he's paid to enforce it.

Interesting that they make their own rules so as not to be bothered.

thanks again.
