That's sort of a stretch...car accidents and the related deaths are way more common than incidents of armed or unarmed self defense. I prefer the fire extinguisher question.

I use the fire extinguisher example. I also tell them that they must want to have a fire because they have a fire extinguisher... That takes the Wind out of the sails of those that use 'you must want to be in a gunfight' as an argument.
