First I've heard of this. Please provide more info (links are best). Where/how/with whom does one register this hypothetical handgun?

I believe this is where you register oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/agweb/pdfs/firearms/forms/volreg.pdf

Edit: this is the link: https://oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/agwe ... 991frm.pdf?

I’ve never been interested in moving to California so I haven’t done much research into it. I just know the question comes up often enough on reddit and other places that the answer is you can bring off roster guns in with you and register them when moving to Cali. Also family can gift off roster guns from out of state to people in Cali. Another exemption is law enforcement can buy off roster from ffls and sell private party. There’s a lot of off roster firearms in Cali it’s just expensive as hell to buy them.

Here’s some more info: http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/index ... h_firearms

What a stupid law.

That's like saying, well, if you're a CA resident you can't buy Marijuana. It's legal to possess, but not buy. If you move here, bring whatever and you can sell it for double street value

Are they trying to create a black market?! That's essentially what they did. Either that or its an effort to stop people from fleeing the shithole...

HEY! Move here with your collection and sell a few a year to pay our ridiculous taxes!

There was a guy on the other site who brought guns between WA and California a couple times a month.
He brought hunting rifles up to WA, traded them for handguns and AR's which he brought back down south to CA. Sold or traded them out of his car.
I asked if he had an FFL, he said no and that he didn't need one because he made the majority of his money from another job.
I told him it sounded like illegal gun trafficking to me. Didn't see him on there much afterwards.

It's the same in Hawaii. It's damn near impossible to buy stuff there, but you can bring whatever you want into the state (well, almost) as long as you register it. At least that's how it was when I was there.

I would suggest buying any handguns you want now that are off roster as if you find you don’t like them later on down the road you can always sell them for a lot more.

Well, technically, yes. But not if the intent is to sell. Either way there is a limit (unwritten) of 5 sales per year otherwise one is considered a dealer.

Also, long guns (all firearms) require registration - not just handguns.

Beware of magazines as there is no such exemption to importation of magazines over 10 capacity. Court cases are pending but no injunctions in place anymore.

Are you talking California or federally? I don’t see how that makes you a dealer at all. Shit we have members on here that sell more than 5 guns a year because they decide they don’t like them anymore after shooting them for a bit.
