Long story short, stopped by the 21st of March to get an sks. Was told 10 business days, which I understand is the law now. Tomorrow, April 10th will be 15 business days.

I tried searching to find an answer to my questions, which is am I legally able to pick up my rifle after 10 business days? Shop owner called me on Monday April 6th after leaving him 2 voicemails. Told me he's still waiting to hear from local police or sheriff. I'm in Mason county, and it's never taken this long.

Second question is what am I legally able to do since it's been past the 10 day waiting period?

I appreciate any and all comments. Just trying to figure this states semi auto laws. I've read the rcw and am just trying to get some better clarification. Thanks.

Unfortunately you do not have much recourse but to just wait it out, I try to only use FFLs that will release after 10 Days.

Request that he release the firearm or refund the money as he hasn't fulfilled the contract to provide the firearm within the legal timeframe

It all kind of boils down to how the FFL wants to handle it. Yes, they can release after 10 business days but it doesn’t mean they have to as some will want to verify with their LEO and wait for the release confirmation (cover their own business).

As for recourse sure you can ask for refund but there are plenty of buyers now so the business won’t be holding the bag for too long. But then you’ll be waiting to find another one and then start the whole process over again.

Your choice. It’s not a buyers market right now.

Well . . . WA law requires (note the word "requires" there, not allows or permits) the FFL to give you the rifle after 10 business days, whether they have heard back from law enforcement or not.

But, with that said, many FFLs do not follow that law, and there's probably not a hell of a lot that you can do about it. My only recommendation would be to choose your FFL wisely for all purchases or transfers, and ask before you buy.

This is one of those things that you can write off as "no big deal" if it's 10 days, or 14 days, or 20 days. However, sometimes it takes weeks and weeks for law enforcement to do it, and you can just be held hostage.

So for the next gun, choose wisely. We have a thread on FFL policies here: viewtopic.php?f=51&t=105884

If you can provide input to that thread based on your experiences, it would be appreciated.

Well thank you all for the replies. It is greatly appreciated. I'll try to give the FFL another call and discuss the issues more in-depth. I'll let you know when I hear that I get a proceed. Thanks again.
