Post subject:  Law tactical folder on 10.5 pistol
I was wondering if anyone knew the answer to this. I have a 10.5” AR pistol with SBA3 brace. I want to add a law tactical folder which adds 1.3” length of pull. By adding the folder, is it still a pistol? I’ve tried reading about ATF laws but hoping someone can elaborate. Ultimately I would like to be able to take this in a Bag/backpack with concealed permit and not worry if I accidentally made an SBR.

I don't know of any reason why it would be a problem. You still have a brace on the gun, not a stock. And, you're not modifying the brace; it's just installed a little further back than it originally was.

I guess my concern was something about being over 26” is classified as rifle or something like that? I just don’t know if that means from barrel to end of buffer? I think mine is at exactly 26” without the brace attached. So added the 1.3” adapter makes me wonder if 27.3” overall length is SBR territory?

No, going over 26" does not make it a rifle.

Going over 26" makes it, from a federal perspective, a "firearm." That's a good thing, as it gives you a little more flexibility with stuff like vertical foregrips.

I believe the issue is when the LOP is over 13.5" when fully extended. I'm trying to find a source to reference.

If I recall, the LOP supposition comes from the ATF letter to SB tactical in their approval of the SBA brace.

The folder is perfectly fine on your AR pistol. It's the most common application for the LAW folders; you aren't doing anything that thousands of other people haven't done already.

This one was 10.5", now 9" but good to go either way. It gets carried in a backpack when I travel.
