So I've been looking through some AKs and so far, I've found that it might just be cheaper to get an AK parts set and a receiver. However I possess none of the knowledge or tools to build an AK. Any guys around here (or that you know of) that are proficient in building AKs? If so how much to have one built?

proficient no, capable yes. There is a lot more to it than one would think. Give me a shout and I will tell you everything I have learned.

I have done 6 rivet builds. Unless it's for the satisfaction alone, it's not cost effective anymore with the price of a built AK in my opinion.
When kits were cheap, it was worth it.
It's a fair amount of work just breaking down a de-milled kit properly.

I've never done it, but my perception is that it's never going to be cheaper to build your own . . . unless you're willing to work for about a penny an hour. Do it for the satisfaction if it's something that interests you, but don't do it because of money.

Makes sense.. Funnily enough that's why I first decided to start building ARs...However I fell in love with doing it about halfway through building my first one

"Building" an AR is a whole different ballgame.
They snap together.
