Yes, I have. That's mostly why it's at 20" instead of 18". I can take off more later if I desire too. Even at it's worse group at 50yds, it was still acceptable before shortening the barrel. I may have to change the load or test bullets again but, I'm betting on it being better.
If it's a bust, I got some practical experience. If it stays the same, I'm pleased and the rifle will look good too. If it's more awesome...well then this old rifle gets to keep telling more stories. Perhaps it will tell a story about harvesting a bear next year.

Well the metal in the barrel looks better than the skin on your palm. And it's significantly older than you. So that's a plus. U need to moisturize bro!!!

Here I am again, alone, because this whole time I thought you liked my hands rough.

When I said I liked it rough, I wasn't referring to your hands.

Yeah that bore is rough....but put some rounds through it dreadi, burnish that barrel in. It's a Scout, it will do the job at the range a Scout is intended for. Sinus211? His bore is rough too, but it was workable at short range.

The rust remover was foaming up like peroxide on road rash. All kinds of little things coming up to the surface through the bore. Really all I wanted was to remove rust from the chamber without blasting it out but, that's how it does if you're not going to remove the barrel from the action. The chamber is much cleaner now though.
It's definitely going to get some bullets down range in a few weeks. I was thinking earlier....pure copper bullets first? Perhaps a few patches of JB bore paste after refinishing and crowning.

How about that, you aren't shooting blanks. dreadi wrote: The rust remover was foaming up like peroxide on road rash. All kinds of little things coming up to the surface through the bore. You don't need to get fancy with solid coppers dreadi, just put some rounds downrange. The JB's before you actually start shooting it is a good idea, knock some of that frost off. You need to Crown it, The crown is more important than the last inch of barrel.

Perhaps a few patches of JB bore paste after refinishing and crowning. If it was my barrel I'd lap it first. A bore that rough is going to foul so bad you might get one or two accurate shots through it. At least knock down the high spots and yes, you lap from the throat to the crown, the entire bore. You'll also want to be careful about the rapid buildup of copper and carbon you will see with this bore just ahead of the throat. It can grow enough to cause you pressure problems down the road.

I'm in agreement. There's definitely going to be some lapping before shooting.

Anyone have tips on polishing a bolt knob? It's round and kind of weird to cross polish. There is a guy from Texas that specializes in Mauser bolt polishing. He did mine last year and it is real nice. Cost like 40 bucks. Well worth it. Just google Mauser bolt polishing.

I'm never doing this again by hand. This took hours.
