One question - why do you have the bipod mounted that direction? I see some people do that, so there must be a reason, but I haven't figured out what it is. Seems like several disadvantages that way but what's the benefit? easier to reach? keeps the thick are of the gun near the stock? I didn't know there was a right or wrong way to mount it

When the legs fold forward, pre-loading the gun against the bipod isn't prone to folding the legs up. Not an issue with all bipods and probably doesn't matter with your .22, just a good practice.
That also leaves the forend area free to hold it for offhand shooting without the bipod legs in the way.
