I need to ship a long gun to Colville, but the FFL there will not accept it unless I ship it from anouther FFL. I've not heard that this is a requirement, and have spent alot of time on the state and ATF web site looking for verification of this statement. I've found nothing requiring that the shipper hold an FFL, nor the recipient, so long as both parties reside in the same state. Any FFL holders here care to verify this? Mine is not available at the moment, he's likely hunting if I know him.

It's dealer preference to accept via private shipper or not.

Yeah. What Dan said is correct. It's dealer discretion and not a law.

So I gathered. Are there any dealers here in Colville? My buyer's getting a run about and needs some help.

Why are you shipping to a dealer?

I'm assuming he doesn't know the buyer and wants to ship to an FFL to make sure the buyer is legit.

most of the time it's cheaper for an FFL to ship to an FFL vs shipping via priority overnight which is what UPS/FEDEX require if a non-FFL is the shipper.

pistols cannot be shipped USPS, long guns can be sent USPS priority mail

It's a long gun, and I'd do a FTF since the buyer checks out. But she's way too far away from me to make the drive convient for either of us. This is going to a board member, so I was hoping there was an FFL in her AO that could help. And, even if I did ship from my FFL, her FFL still wants to charge her $50.00.

So . . . if you're comfortable with the buyer, since it's an in-state sale then you can just ship directly to the buyer. No FFL required on either end.

$35-ish for UPS, maybe less, and you're good to go.

Or worse case, hit up Bud's Guns. They have a FFL lookup. I would recommend limiting it to Bud's preffered FFL's. Betting there is a Kitchen table FFL near her and you, and they tend to be more flexible on shipment and much better priced..

I didn't know you could ship directly to a buyer in WA state. Does that apply to handguns too? I was looking at purchasing a handgun from a seller in Spokane, but passed after he said it had to be shipped to a FFL, and I found out I'd have to pay sales tax even though it would be a private transfer

Yes, handgun or long gun, it doesn't matter.

You'll still need to follow the shipping rules for handguns, though, so it will get a little pricey.

I use the GB FFL lookup: http://www.gunbroker.com/ffl/dealernetwork.aspx

It definitely lists some kitchen table FFLs. There's also a list on the BATF site somewhere but less easy to use.

True, You are definitely special!

I was recommending that with regard to using an ffl that is not a member here...
