For the third straight month, CPLs have declined in Washington State, losing about 10,000 since Jan. 1. Anyone care to take a stab at why? You may get quoted.

Everyone who wants one, has one? Can you check percentages of past years - like 10 years ago 14% of State residents had one, today 19% have one?

Most things hit saturation at some point.

Wait, so is this new CPL applications or total number of CPLs? If it's new CPLs, it may just be that we're reaching a saturation point. If it's total number, I would hazard a reasonable guess that people are either moving out of state, dying or not renewing.

If you're living paycheck to paycheck and have to make a decision between renewing your tabs or renewing your CPL, you're most likely to choose renewing your tabs. The RTA tax is huge burden for some people.

Interesting observation.

Saturation could certainly explain it.

I'm wondering if it is simply a matter of people thinking that since Trump is POTUS, they can stand down a bit. Take a breather. And not feel like they HAVE to get their CPL right away...

Still unclear what we are discussing here. New CPL application #'s dropping or total number of CPLs?

Personal weapons are what raised mankind out of the mud, and the rifle is the queen of personal weapons. The possession of a good rifle, as well as the skill to use it well, truly makes a man the monarch of all he surveys. It realizes the ancient dream of the Jovian thunderbolt, and as such it is the embodiment of personal power. For this reason it exercises a curious influence over the minds of most men, and in its best examples it constitutes an object of affection unmatched by any other inanimate object.

The total number of CPLs.

Stunner: WA Loses 11K Carry Licenses in Past 4 Months

In a remarkable reversal of a trend in progress for more than four years, the number of active concealed pistol licenses in Washington State has dropped by 11,000 over the past four months, a fact that might be alarming to gun rights groups, but may also suggest a return of lethargy in the firearms community.

Thank you Dave.

And that pretty much says it. Could be a good indication of a return of lethargy. No one feeling like they have to get it now, while they still can.

I have a theory based on info from one LE agency.

LE isn’t processing them fast enough to meet the requirements set forth by law. Therefore many of them are expiring before renewal and the data that supports renewal numbers isn’t available because they haven’t been renewed to the backlog.

That must be location specific. My renewal was in my mail box three days after I submitted it to my local LEA.. Laminated even..

Then again I live in a small but intense Red zone in the sea of Blue..

For Snohomish county, my renewal took the full 30 days.

Same here. They always always take every bit of the 30 days. In fact, last time, it was 4 days late.

The law makers don't follow the law. Why should anyone else?
