...or futile.

No, you can't use someone else's C&R FFL for that. As a C&R FFL you can transfer guns in and out of your collection (buy & sell them), but you can't act as a "dealer". (and in this case, I'd argue you are proposing a straw purchase rather than the C&R acting as a dealer)

If you have a friend who has a C&R FFL you can suggest that they buy it for their collection, and maybe years later convince them to sell it to you.

My local kitchen table FFL is $25 for long guns, takes all of 5 minutes. Just sayin.

Yup. Suck it up and pay the transfer and tax this time. Consider it a "lesson learned" and get your paperwork turned in so you're ready for the next one!

Thanks,

That's what I figured. Thanks again for letting me ask the "dumb" questions here, instead of at a local shop.... Where of coarse I am a "terrorist" for asking about; straw purchasing, shipping firearms to my doorstep, etc. I guess, you have to watch how you phrase things this day in age!

Where is this mythical $25 transfer fee located? Originally I was under the impression that I was going to have to pay $50-$75 + sales tax.

You will have to pay sales tax based on the value of the gun if there is no invoice with it, or on the sales price if there is an invoice. Kitchen table FFLs didn't have to collect it originally, only "store front", but the DOR cracked down. I think it is BS because if you bought it used in WA state privately you wouldn't pay sales tax.

What is the normal return time on this thing again?

It varies. Mine came back in like within 2 weeks.

But the government didn't go through a shutdown...
