Curious to the OAL most of you are using who load the 124G Extreme HP's.
Ive mostly loaded 147's, but have a few thousand of their 124's to load up. Some books I have for similar bullets show 1.10.. but when I went that long on these 124 extremes, it doesn't look like there is much bullet inside the case.
Edit: asking about 9mm
Thx

The closest thing that I've loaded was Berry's 124-grain Flat Point. I loaded those to 1.06".

Also . . . you didn't mention caliber, but my assumption is that you're talking about 9mm Luger.

Depends on rhe gun. My CZ's like them shorter than any other 9mm guns that I own.

I load mine to 1.169 OAL.
It also depends on the throat of your gun. Take the barrel out and measure, or do a plunk test.

I suspect you’re talking about round nose. Yes, I load my Xtreme HP 124 gr in front of 7.7 gr of Silhouette (or 7.0 Winchester AutoComp) and a CCI 500 primer. FYI, I shoot Open. Additionally, when loading this bullet for other guns, my powder changes between power pistol, CFE, or Titegroup. The OAL stays the same in my CZ guns @1.165, a little shorter in my Glocks @1.135, and mid-range @1.15 in my subguns/PCC. Hope this helps. The key is knowing each chamber in each gun you intend to reload for.

I use the Xtreme 124 HP’s for a target / practice load at an OAL of 1.065” over 4.0gr of either Bullseye or Titegroup.
I worked up this load to function well with light recoil in my variety of 9mm pistols. Is it optimum for accuracy in each different pistol? Dunno.. It’s as good as I am for the 7-10 yard practice I do .
I also load a “Ball” ( NATO simulator) round with 124 RN at 1.155” COL with 5.2 of Autocomp. It also works well in my range of 9mm pistols.
YMMV, of course..

It also depends on the throat of your gun. Take the barrel out and measure, or do a plunk test. 1.169 seems really long These bullets (124g Extreme HP) are .535, 9mm cases are .750 +/- .005 so you are only seating the bullet .11 into the case? That dont seem right to me.

Take a look at the 9mm major loads thread in Brian Enos. This is very common. Some folks run 1.171 or longer. http://forums.brianenos.com/topic/11342 ... or-topics/

Thx Your post lacks the critical info: how much powder are you putting in that case? Asking for seating depth "numbers" without knowing your current pressure threshold WILL prove to be catastrophic. With that said, OAL doesn't mean squat. Most people don't even measure it right. The proper way to measure it is ogive to base of case. Since bullet profiles and gun chambers differ greatly, what you need to watch for is case capacity and whether the loaded round will feed reliably. What I would do: - Start at a suggestive starting load in your manual for 120's grain LEAD bullet. - Seat the bullet as far out as possible and perform "plunk" test in your gun barrel. Adjust seating depth/crimp until it passes the plunk test and fits in your magazine. - Test/Develop said load until it reaches satisfactory performance. Sorry, there isn't a short and sweet answer when it comes to reloading. Enjoy and be safe. Hien
