Hey guys, I royally messed something up. Feel free to laugh because I rushed it instead of taking a minute to think it through. Long story short, primer got stuck during seating at a 45 degree angle, Internet said to put on ear/eyepro and use the resizing die to push it out. Thought I had lubed the case enough, spoiler alert, I didn't. I guess I'm supposed to unscrew and remove the decapping pin, but with the shell holder stuck the way it is, I don't believe it will separate from the die like it should.

Anyone got the tools and know-how to take this apart or can recommend a shop/smith? Apartment dweller here, so I don't have any of the necessary tools to take this apart. Should I just ditch this and pay the $30/40 to replace the holder and resizing die?

Why is the shell holder stuck on there? Is the live primer still jammed in there somehow?

What caliber is this?

Tap the Shell plate off with a hammer. (eye pro please) then unscrew the decapper and remove. Put the die back in the press and use a long punch and drive the case out.

.223, I was using the Lee Ergo Prime, prime got lodged between the case and the shellholder. Used the decapper to remove the primer (which is now in the trash) but the pin is now stuck and protruding past the flash hole.

The decapping pin is protruding past the flash hole, won't this bend the pin?

Well that changes things...See if you can unscrew the decapper and pull it out then.

Yup, unscrew the part at the top of the die; this will allow you to at least pull the decapping pin back far enough to remove the shell holder.

Loosen the pin "screw" up top and the pin should come right out. I didn't try to get my mind around what you got going on there...... icon_eek

Yeah, the pin should come back enough to remove the case holder but it won't just pop out entirely.

You've still got the expander ball on the end, and that won't allow the stem to just come out. Hopefully you'll be able to pull the stem back so the expander ball is pushing against, the top, then unscrew . . . and with luck, the ball will come drop off the stem, and allow the stem to come out. At that point, the decapping pin and the expander will be bouncing around inside the case, but that's ok.

It might also help to grab that pin with needle-nose pliers and start unscrewing the stem, and it might come apart.

Then we'll tackle the next step.

You'll fit right in around here. :rofl9:

I think my mind went into tetanus seeing a priming (device) shell holder with a depriming pin not only through it, but stuck. :wink05:

That's a Lee die. Easy fix.

1. Place the die in your reloading press.

2. Unscrew the top part--the part that holds the decapping rod. Remove it.

3. With a small hammer, tap on the decapping pin. It will gradually extract the case. If you need to, you can also use a second punch to drive the decapping rod downward.

Winner winner right here.

Once that pin comes out and if you still can't get it out hit me up and drive on down to renton, I have a stuck case kit and can get it out for you in about 10 minutes.
