Do you also see wide variations in dropped powder weights with Trail Boss? I'm seeing grain weights of 13.4-14.0gr, so a 0.6gr variation.
I'm reloading on a Dillon 550, loading 255gr bullets into a .460 S&W Magnum case for loads equivalent to .45LC.
I called Dillon and they said to remove static by wiping the powder funnel with a dryer sheet, and to put a low-powder sensor on top (which I don't have). But that sounds kinda like the default IT tech support phrase ("Have you tried rebooting the system?"). I'm about to polish the interior of the aluminum powder funnel and then will wipe down as instructed.
Is this variability a function of the huge grain size of the Trail Boss granules? Or is there something else I should be looking at?

Static can be a very real thing and the dryer sheet trick is one that has been around for a while. Trailboss is a large but light powder, pieces look like little o's. I can see that powder being very static sensitive given the size/weight of each piece of powder. It is also bulky for size so I could see it stacking up and not clearing your thrower's chamber depending on static and what thrower you are using. Def give the drier sheets a shot 1st before you go all outpolishing.

Trailboss is a flat donut shape as you already know. Measuring with a powder drop will be inconsistent compared to a scale regardless of static in the funnel.
