Working up a new hunting load, found it interesting the range from low to high. Which makes sense because of the increased velocity, just nice to visually see it. The primers were all good and I'm sure I can go higher, but 56.5 looks to be the winner for now.

Yeah, that's interesting to see, I agree. That's a lot of powder for 30-06 . . . at least for the Garand-level stuff that I've done. Mind sharing what powder and bullet you're using?

The bullet is a 178 Hornady ELD-X, powder is Accurate Arms 4350. Hornady 8th edition lists max load as 54.4, but reading the interwebs people are going as high as 57.0. So I started low and figured I'd go till I saw problems with the primer or case. They all look great.
I started with some cheap Remington 180gn Core-Lokt, 100 yards 1" high. As you can see the last group ended up 1" high aswell so I'm guessing around 2750ish FPS. Might try a little more 56.8, 57.1.

So acidfly...what are you going to do when you can not get that specific powder and bullet. I am just remembering the last shortage. I load to a node and within that node I can substitute four or five powders with same weight bullet most of which I hard cast.

For whatever reason the grandpa ‘06 likes slower burning powders. My current favorite recipe:
180-190g bullet. Pick your poison, I like Nosler Accubond LR but any will do. RL22 @ 62gr 3.340” OAL pick whatever high quality brass and primer you like.
3” high @ 100, POI @ 225, 4” low at 250 and 2800+ FPS all day long and safe in any 24” bolt rifle.

Is it just me or does anyone else see the potential of the 55.3-55.6 group's?

Those groups are good - short range. Presumably, the hotter loads point of impact high and center would make longer shot accuracy more of a reality.

Went out today and tried some hotter loads.. 57.1 looked really good. I don't think ill go higher than that though. Should have the round over 2800fps.

I don't have a Chrono. I just load in increments till I see possible problems. I loaded up to 57.4 the last time I was out and had great grouping with 57.1 at 100 and 200 yards with no bad primer or case signs.
