At the pit that I frequent. Looks like a feed lip on the magazine did this damage to 60 of 100 cases.
Thoughts or opinions???

I dunno, but based on what I can see, I'd load 'em!

Pretty sure that will pop right out when you shoot them

I see that on a lot of 300bo I find in a local pit. Load and let it fire form at the worst you get one shot out of it and the case will split, not sure how well a full length sizing die will fix it but worth a try iv been very surprised how much of a dent my lee dies will pull out during resizing of 223

Thanks for the replies. :wagwoot: I don't think I showed the worst ones, they are gouged pretty deep. I'll look through them tomorrow.

If you shine a light through the mouth and can see light through the case it's a crack and would toss em', other than that should pop out as mentioned.

As I mentioned earlier these are gouged by the metal magazine feed lips not dents, if they were only dented I would not hesitate to reuse them. Just threw them in the recycle bucket, not gonna risk it.

Thanks for the replies. :wink05:

Jim
Those tiny dents are nothing to worry about. I seen a on a forum where a guy loaded really bad 223 brass.
Take a look at the brass, then loaded brass then fire formed brass and then the five shots at a hundred yards.

I processed well over 700 pounds of range brass and saved up around a couple hundred pieces of 223/5.56 trash brass to reload and shoot.
I will load an equal amount of good brass and compre these trash pieces to good pieces and see how the case life expectancy is between the two groups of brass.
I will be using either a Thompson Center Contender or a bolt action rifle so I can shoot and keep the brass seperate for my test.

All those will work fine. I have fireformed quite a few.

The one with the really deep gouge (6th from the bottom) might be questionable

Hard to see on my phone how deep that is

The dents in the rest wouldn’t worry me

Nope, those and any that are creased, badly dented or really questionable get tossed into the recycle bucket.
Hell, I could probably sell that bucket as loadable brass then... :rofl9:
