Finally got around to sitting down at the press to roll out some boxes of rounds. Started off sorta crappy. I verified the change in powder load and that only took a couple slight adjustments. I put my dies in and stick in the first case. Pull the lever and it feels like a small case in the sizer, no big deal. I go to prime, and it didnt feel right, so I take out the case. What do you know? It still had a old primer. I sit there for a second thinking WTF?? Then it dons on me. I swapped the positions of the decapper and seater dies! OOPS! So basically I bent the decapping pin, and the end threads on the rod. Took a dremmel tool and a punch to get the old pin out. I had to bennd the end of the decapping rod too, but was able to straighten the thread so everything is back to normal. I also had my shell plate loose because I had to file the dent the decapping pin made in my frame. I forgot to tighten it when I was readjusting the decapping die and got the press all bound up with a shell in the sizing die, but the shell plate loose. Getting it unstuck I just about cut my retaining spring in 2 pieces. Once I got those small things sorted I was able to get moving. Out of 400 rounds I had 1 projectile go in crooked and crush the case and peel the plating. I also had 2-3 no primes where I just forgot I think. What stupid things have you done getting started?

You have just lost your virginity. It happens even after years of reloading. You are intelligent enough to recognize and correct the problem. Carry on my friend it will get better.

I made one of those mistakes once; I decided to decap in station 1, and size in station 2. Well, I figured I didn't need to remove the decapping pin from the sizing die -- after all, who cares if the case gets "decapped" twice?? Well, I started to care the first time I pulled the handle and heard the "crunch" as the second decapping pin (in station 2) hit the subplate, and broke not only the decapping pin but also the expander.

In this hobby, if you don't leak blood and can count all your fingers and parts after a mistake, it really isn't a blunder. Better to make one like this and heighten your awareness than to make one that has dire consequences. Load On
