So first, I am not a reloader.

But there is clear evidence Now is the best time to become a reloader, if this appeals to you, I hope you think about it.

One with recent initiatives soon to kicking in. It’s clear the path is set and soon there will be more and more restrictions to come.

One that has been tried a few times throughout the US is limiting ammo in some sort of way. Either by simply restricting how much or what one may buy to having ammo serial numbered and tracked to buyer, etc

Two, prices and availability are right. Prices are low and availability is high. Good time to stock up.

Three, you have a community of folks here willing to teach you, give advice and help you along.

Where to start? Centerfire rifle caliber are hands down the best bonus for the effort and buck.
You can put a high quality round for cheap compared to buying commercial manufacturer.

Anyways, if you are on the fence BUY up and stockpile.

I agree. Best bang is 10mm but that's a different thread.

You know they will come after reloading though. You just know it.

I see restrictions on PRIMERS. Everything else can be manufactured by a handy fellow. Primers are not something easily made in a garage or basement.

So what is the hold up oldkim? Get yourself a present this year in a reloading kit and get to it....then take up casting and PC. I come out ahead just loading 9mm let alone .44 Automag or some rifle caliber.

I actually saw a youtube video once of a guy who scraped the material off of a match stick, crushed it and put into the cup of a spent primer, with the anvil removed. He then carefully put the anvil back and loaded a round with it and it actually worked...

I'm sure there are other things that could be done in a pinch, but for now the smart play is to buy it cheap and stack it deep. That way you have ammo making capabilities for the long run.

I went to the local Sportsman’s today and holy hell Batman, all the 8lb jugs of powder are gone (maybe put away) off the shelf’s and I have never seen that many people buying firearms at the same time. Looks like stock up scare is going on.

I'm thankful that I have about 12+ lbs of each powder I need to use and that I'm not getting into the hobby right now. Man, it looks like a run on components again.

What is triggering it? I have heard zero in regards to shortages, impending laws, etc. that would affect powder/components or ammo?

Stock up on ammo too, prices are lower than they have been in a long time. This also gives you brass to reload with.

I've not heard anything concrete, but people have so many misconceptions about 1639 it is astonishing. Parts of the No campaign made some...less than accurate statements through super wild ass inference and extrapolation. Literally a guy at the range today thought everyone had to go register all their firearms. What the...?!

I would also guess folks are worried we might be getting some new laws like CA requiring background checks on ammo.

Somehow people can get to the store to buy more guns and ammo, but fail to vote...smh

Any one serious about shooting rifle or pistol should get into reloading. I started my grandson into shooting when he was 4 years old, he is seven now and is shooting centerfire handguns and centerfire rifles. By reloading I can start at the minimum powder charge for him and load them up heavy for myself. We go shooting almost every weekend and will go threw 100 to 200 rounds of 38spl or 357 magnum and 50 or so 222 Remington or 223 Remington bullets. I made up a few loads that the rifles really like. With factory loads you are limited to what you can get.
I can make what shoots the best in each gun I have.
My next project is to work up loads for my Remington 788 in 243 Winchester and my old Remington model 141 in 35 Remington.
Reloading is an enjoyable hobby within itself. And to see your groups shrink with twinkling the powder is fun.
I invested a bunch of money on my reloading stuff, now I need to stock up on primers, powder, bullets and a few more die sets.
I have two presses set up, one for pistol and one for rifle with their own powder measures. I have a little more moving things around to be set up where it is more comfortable to use.
It all takes time.
One of the things I like are the semi see thru plastic sterilite containers from Walmart for my brass storage. I can see what's in them and they stack nice.
I put labels on them and a index card inside that has what I have done to the cases.

I am in it way too DEEP... I am in the process of building the ultimate (for me anyways) reloading/gun room to include a new Colonial 50 safe. :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload: :handload:

You are never to deep if it is your hobby. I probably will never even break even on reloading after I spent what I did for what I got, but I get to load anything we want to use, friends can come over and reload what they want. So in the end it is very rewarding for me.
