Ron was by today loading his 244 valkyrie brass and noticed that the rim was cut differently on the Hornady brass. Primers were hard to seat so looking closer the brass looked like it had crimped primers. No big deal, grab the primer crimp removal tool and it should just disappear. Not so. The tool bottomed out in the pocket and the cutters on the tool never touched the pocket to remove the perceived crimp. Primers seated normally after using a deburr tool to bevel the edge.
Primers were not high in the case but I wonder what's different with the pockets that a normal reamer would not work.
Anyone have any ideas?
Just glad I had Mark there or I would've spent all afternoon trying to figure out what I was doing wrong.
All of the Federal brass accepted the new primers just fine. No fuss no muss. The Hornady brass, as Mark already stated, was good to go after taking the deburring tool to it.
I can hardly wait to test the 224 ladder loads.
