So what are the best kits? I have a good deal of medical supplies, but looking for a solid kit I can store in an emergency supply box. I was thinking of going with something from mymedic, but didn't know if I could just add to my existing kit and do it for cheaper? Granted you can't put a price tag on someone's life.

Thoughts and suggestions?

Can you define an 'emergency supply box' a little more, or what you want to cover with this FAK?

Individual, or family...

"lights out" emergency, or earthquake with no help for awhile?

A kit to match your personal skill level, or things that would treat severe things, that hopefully someone in your group coup use?

Sounds picky, but since kits take up room, better parameters=better results.

No commercial kit will "fit" your mission and skill level as well as one you build yourself. and none will contain the most important items: your perscription meds/eyewear/other.
Your medkit is a cost vs risk calculation only you should make.

I’ve always just put them together. The pre-made ones cost more

Watch the rite aid/bartells/walgreen ads. They put bandages on sale every once in a while

I've been meaning to put a kit together for each of my vehicles since I did this 2 months ago. I've at least bought an Israeli battle dressing and tournaquet lol. I've had a pre made kit from sportsman's and once I went to use the no-stick gauze after using what the hospital gave me I found it was a total joke. Sum of the story, try out the stuff you buy before you depend on it

Here are a couple lists:

IFAK/blow out kit. I have four of these. One each on my shooting belt, plate carrier, brief case, and another that I can put into any other bag that I might be carrying. One is in a HSGI bleeder pouch, two are tactical tailor organizers in mag pouches, and the floater is in a TYR SOF IFAK pouch that's a bit bigger

1 CAT
1 Decompression needle
1 NPA & lube
1 4” Israeli/Olaes bandage
1 Combat gauze/Celox
2 Chest seals
1 Shears
2 Gloves
1 Tape
1 Sharpie

Truck First Aid Kit, in a bag like this:
http://theopsdeck.com/packs%20-%20medical/PROD%20-%20RC%202443%20Trifold%20EMT%20Medical%20Bag.htm
The one I have was made by Dynamed but I can't find it on their site. I really should get a better bag. It's gotten a little tight since I keep adding things to it. I'm sure I have more bandaids in there right now. I don't count them out exactly when I refill it. I also have some other stuff in there that I know isn't on this list (like blister patches I had extra)

1 CAT
1 CPR mask
2 Decompression needles
1 Irrigation syringe
1 Large shears
1 Bandage shears
1 Small scissors
2 Hemostats
1 Cold pack
1 Splint
2 Gloves
1 Sharpie

Ibuprofen, small bottle
Acetaminophen, small bottle
Aspirin, small bottle
Sudafed blister pack
Imodium blister pack
Benadryl blister pack
Antacid

1 Hydrogen Peroxide, bottle
1 Polysporin
1 Hydrocortisone cream
1 Dental wax

1 Cloth tape roll
3 6”/3”/2” Ace
2 3” Roller gauze
4 4x4 Gauze pads
4 4x3 Nonstick dressings
2 3x2 Nonstick pads
10 Butterfly closures
4 Knuckle bandages
4 Fingertip bandages
10 Small bandages
6 Large bandages
4 2x3 bandages
5 Huge bandages

I also have an offshore sailing FAK. It's pretty much the same as the truck first aid kit but adds stuff like a suture kit, catheters, staplers, and a whole suite of drugs. In the middle of the ocean an evac isn't possible so we have to be able to handle whatever comes up

When I was in the Army they trained us on giving IV's. Now it is Tourniquets.
Betadine
Just get some quality band aids from Walmart.
Most "pre-made" first aid kits have stuff you will never use.
Tweezers
Wet Ones
Alcohol pads
gauze pads
duct tape
Something like quit clot for serious wounds
cayenne pepper. (It works) https://www.google.com/search?ei=7pAQXI ... vaLdF2zQcw

Interesting about the cayenne, I figured topical but just read taking extract in a cup of water stops bleeding in a few mins, and supposedly stops heart attacks and strokes too.

I built my own, now they have Neosporin prepped band-aids, self bonding tape, gauze pads Celox,

Quick clot pads will bond to the wound causing more bleeding when removed, Celox doesn't need to be removed from the wound.

When building a kit, build it for yourself and family care, Good Samaritan laws will tear you up in court if you decide to play EMT with out proper training you can do more damage.

Using a decomp needle without prior knowledge/practice of medical/legal issues is not a sustainable choice.
*Carrying* a decomp needle has no down-side, it can be used by someone else who has training/auth.
When you take your TCCC training you will learn that in terms of risk vs cost vs benefit, you should start all your kit building around TQs.

When you get your training you will learn about shock, esp. hypovolemic. a space blanket (good) or two (better) is a really good idea.

Here's an idea for an impromptu tourniquet, self bonding emergency tape, 2" wide roll or 1" wide, much like a SWAT type.
the more you wrap it the tighter it gets.
