Whored out flash code. You'll probably have to get it aligned.

Not a bad price, otherwise.

I understand about the Astro ID being what identifies us to others but a little confused about the MDC IDs

Should those be just four random 4 digit numbers are should there be some order to them?

The write up says that they need to be four unique numbers

I'll have to research that.

Not great for tactical use due to delay and phone usage, but might be good for on scene logistics/crowd control.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Or if you have a couple hundred acres compound, with essentially a small community sheltered, but scattered there... A cheap easy way to keep everyone connected to a central communications station.

Looks to me like an old fashioned phone system. Where everyone else can hear/read the communications. But would certainly have it's place.

This is great info, thank you!

Yeah the PRC-148 clones,I was turned on to by some very serious minded shooters. Airsoft is for kids, but ironically that's one legitimate place to buy those, jkarmy airsoft website. We all felt like tools even lookin' at it! HA!

So the only advantage to those it seems, as many report, is they are bomb proof. They're surviving treatment that would destroy mine.

That's something, just not sure if worth 200+ bucks. I do need durability though.

Where do you find good coax that'll mate up with a Baofeng?

And how would one hook that cable up to an old TV antenna on a roof?

I'm thinking such a setup would boost RX/TX range dramatically.

It's funny, as I'm listening to a net on a repeater in Seattle, I think the reception on this cheap thing is pretty good....and then I remember I have nothing really to compare it too. No idea yet if they'll hear me when I transmit.

Sort of like new gun folk who say "hey, this Taurus is solid, yo", because they have no Glock or Sig to compare it to.

It is a blast learning all this.

So once more of us get on air, we can set up nets, decide which repeater we'll talk on and when.

Also looking forward to getting out in the field and doing some training with the simplex aspect. Secure or not, I feel this is a huge asset.

I guess to go secure, we could all learn Klingon, or Esperanto.

For an antenna, I went with a Slim Jim N9TAX antenna. It is made of ribbon cable you can roll up and throw in a rucksack with a lanyard to hoist it in a tree, or you just mount it on PVC on your roof. They work great and are portable. They also have one tuned for dual band MURS/GMRS. They run about $26.

HAM radio is great to get into. Would you believe they have HAM SATCOM?

I got a "Feature Set Does Not Match" error when I just tried to program my radio

My radio is H35- Conventional System Operating Software

Does that need to be H37 or H38?

No. They have a different flashcode.

You can either drag/drop, which I can show you how, or I can redo the radio so it won't happen inthe future, or, if you have teamviewer, I can log in and do it for you.
