Well I'm havin' a blast learning on my little Baofeng, made multiple contacts on repeaters around me now and elswhere, even a buddy of mine up north of me.
This is cool stuff. Have got it set up on my PC too, like a poor man's MBITR with a hand mic and capable of plugging it into my ear pro.
I've transmitted and received 28 miles away so far, out of a valley, to one of the repeaters on Tiger Mountain, talked to a couple folks yesterday.
Can't wait to see where this is going. Good stuff, thanks for all the knowledge and help TW!

I ordered the 2 new batteries anyways ETA: as i posted this, the radio started chirping, so it lasted exactly 6 hours.

Use a sharpie or paint pen to mark it 'bad' or 'bad spare' so you know not to rely on it.

It's "branded" alright

Just bought a radio https://www.ebay.com/itm/ASTRO-25-XTS-5000-VHF-136-174-MHz-9600-Baud-/143641276084?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=72tfk9gEOdUpSamt2i61gloOEEU%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=ncI'll keep watching for a decent 700/800 model III. I have a few on my watch list Found this study guide for the tech license: https://www.kb6nu.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/2018-no-nonsense-tech-study-guide-v1-1.pdfIt's not great but certainly helped. I already knew a fair bit about electronics and studied for the test once before (way back in the 90s) but never took it. I'm going to start studying up for the general too, might as well take them at the same time. I've been passing the tech practice tests consistently for the past few days

0 feedback, and he posted an empty flaschode decoder in an apparent attempt to confuse naive buyers into believing it has all those options when it really only has 1. I hope it comes, if it does, the flashcode will have to be updated, which I can do at no charge.

Could be a scam or the seller doesn't know what they are doing Roll those dice!
