Well I'm havin' a blast learning on my little Baofeng, made multiple contacts on repeaters around me now and elswhere, even a buddy of mine up north of me.

This is cool stuff. Have got it set up on my PC too, like a poor man's MBITR with a hand mic and capable of plugging it into my ear pro.

I've transmitted and received 28 miles away so far, out of a valley, to one of the repeaters on Tiger Mountain, talked to a couple folks yesterday.

Can't wait to see where this is going. Good stuff, thanks for all the knowledge and help TW!

so, yesterday after running the revived battery on a few drain/recharge/drain/recharge cycles i left it on the charger overnight with radio turned off. this morning i turned it on at 1000 and let it run again, it's still running as a type... yesterday it was about 1 hour run time with 30 minutes recharge... we'll see how it goes today

a little update on the revived battery - had it on the charger since about 3-4PM yesterday. turned it on this morning at 9, it is still running, 6 hours now, wow, i'm surprised :thumbsup2:
after it dies i'll give it a 24hr charge and see how long it'll last after that. seems that the longer the charge period is the deeper the charge goes.
according to the charger's manual - red light = rapid charge, green light = slow charge, so maybe not all is lost?
I ordered the 2 new batteries anyways :wink05:

ETA: as i posted this, the radio started chirping, so it lasted exactly 6 hours.

Use a sharpie or paint pen to mark it 'bad' or 'bad spare' so you know not to rely on it.

it has "scars" on the back from me trying to hook up jumper cable clamps to the contacts in the back. It's "branded" alright :ROFLMAO:

LOL. Tape falls off.

You should also date your new batteries, again, sharpie or paint marker, so as you get batteries, you know when each one was put in service.

Put a mask on her.

That’ll make both she and TW happy...

Just bought a radio

https://www.ebay.com/itm/ASTRO-25-XTS-5000-VHF-136-174-MHz-9600-Baud-/143641276084?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=72tfk9gEOdUpSamt2i61gloOEEU%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc

I'll keep watching for a decent 700/800 model III. I have a few on my watch list

Found this study guide for the tech license:
https://www.kb6nu.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/2018-no-nonsense-tech-study-guide-v1-1.pdf

It's not great but certainly helped. I already knew a fair bit about electronics and studied for the test once before (way back in the 90s) but never took it. I'm going to start studying up for the general too, might as well take them at the same time. I've been passing the tech practice tests consistently for the past few days

0 feedback, and he posted an empty flaschode decoder in an apparent attempt to confuse naive buyers into believing it has all those options when it really only has 1.

I hope it comes, if it does, the flashcode will have to be updated, which I can do at no charge.

Yup, I noticed the zero feedback. Could be a scam or the seller doesn't know what they are doing

Roll those dice!
