I love solar, but I got to thinking if I lose power out here it will probably involve a lot of wind. I've seen 3000W wind generators for as low as $200. What size inverter would I need to run a 25 cubic foot double door fridge? We almost always have a decent wind blowing up on the hill where my house is.

If your solar charged batteries will run the fridge, use a wind generator with the same output as the solar panels.
The output of a wind generator is generally too inconsistent (from what I've read) to power high drain items directly.

I don't have solar for the house (power companies in OK won't buy back excess).

No. When they start buying the excess I might think about it. I have a duel fuel generator, but with the amount of wind out here it should be enough to power the fridge which is the only thing I care about.

A typical fridge has a start up of 1.2kw with running wattage of 130-200 watts.
You are going to need to have the wind generator charge a battery then that battery connected to your inverter based on the startup demands of just the fridge alone.

You will need a pure sine for sure.
So is your plan to go from Wind ---> Battery ---> Inverter ---> Fridge?
What is the wattage output of the generator at varying speeds? What is the lock out speed?

So. That one gets you only 500w and that’s at a 30mph wind. It takes 6mph just to make the blades turn.

The wife doesn't want to do it, but I'm still thinking about it. Maybe after I recover from the hit my bank account took from the new water heater.
