Say the power is out for extended periods.

You have a well and are blessed with a high water table (less than 25 feet).

How about an old fashioned pump pump?

Something like this

Or even more retro

Good idea or pipe dream? Suggestions?

Current setup is a well with wired 220VAC 1HP pump, 50 gallon pressure vessel - "bridge" back up is 275 gallon holding tank plumbed in with a 12VDC pump that will push water from the holding tank into pressure vessel.

Not quite sure how to tie in a manual pump to the existing system but working on it.

Pitcher pumps work well, and are still frequently seen in the backyards of older houses on the east coast, and they DO work..

I was looking at a Bison pump a few years back, they were not cheap, but when you absolutely need it, you want it to work right? I will eventually get one.
