With the current political/global climate I would like to look into getting the family setup with some gas masks but my only experience is the m40s from when I was in the marines. I’m looking for budget friendly masks that will still protect.

Snagged an Israeli set up here a while back for what I thought was a killer deal. May be worth looking into.

So this is from a prepper

When folks ask about gas mask etc

Why?

To do it really well - it’s extremely expensive.

I mean you can get a mask but then you have to factor filters and then learning how to use it properly and fit it to that person. Facial hair, small faces. Improper seals. Then also note this is really only a temporary fix. What’s the long term plan?

Meaning do you have a sealed room with a NBC filter someplace?

Resources is limited. I would say spend it on someplace else that you may be needing for your prep.

But as with everything. If you must. Here’s a lead

http://www.ventusrespiratory.com/collec ... espirators

You can also consider commercial respirators - like ones for painting etc.

Also not cheap but look into PAPR
Powered Air Purifying Respirator

Oh believe me I’m well aware of how expensive they are

For those considering

Surplus masks etc can run $40-$150 just depends on model and age/condition

Then filters can cost $15-80 for single or if model requires 2

The link I sent ranges from $150-$250?
Didn’t price spare filters.

PAPR units range from $400-$2500 each and require batteries.

Commercial Respirators range from $90 - $650+

When considering mask - it is all about fit and what chemicals or debris you are thinking. Be it CS gas or more of the lethal chemical agents.

Are you fitting kids? Or small adults? Facial hair can impede proper seal. Just depends on design.

True NBC rated mask only work if you also have a suit in droplet forms of contamination.

The longevity issue of storage and if used of needing more replacement filters are needed.

Decon would be really the biggest investment - the biggest return for the most common person. It requires planning and staging and knowledge of the common procedures to Decon exposures.

This would be the biggest return but it’s not the most glamorous aspect. Not as sexy as having a mask. Lol
