Rechargeable, and no fuel needed. Anybody see/try one out?

Saw it on TV today billed as 'The Atomic Lighter' by the people who sell 'The Atomic Flashlight'.
https://www.atomiclighter.com/

I dunno....For survival, you go from being dependent on fuel to being dependent on electricity.

That's why I like it. I usually have a Goal Zero solar panel with me.

Yeah, but can you light a cigar with it?

It looks marvelous! A technological marvel.

For BOB and general survival techniques I like to rely on as little of high technology as possible.

Yes, and with my solar stuff it is actually easier to "refill" than an actual zippo.

I prefer pee-pee to solar power. But you have to wash your hands after using your flashlight

Yeah I have most of my hunting electronics (flashlights, headlamps, gps, etc) configured so that they can recharge by usb. Then I have a solar panel and a pair of battery packs 5500Mah and 8100Mah that charge with the panel. I will have to check out one of these lighters, very handy for sure.

I have one that is similar in concept but shaped a little different, 4 exposed prongs: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072J ... =UTF8&th=1

It does work, and is fun to burn stuff or dare your co-workers to put their finger on it. I'd rather have a pack of Bic lighters for starting actual fires, but this does work if you want it to be dependent only on electricity.

Like I said I have solar stuff, but no way to produce butane, or lighter fluid. So these lighters are actually better when yo think about it.

I don't think the ability to produce butane or any other fuel is a factor with a pack of disposable Bic lighters. You don't refill them. Just sayin...

There are lots of alternative fire starting methods, and these are as interesting as any. What you'll really wish for in a real survival situation though - an actual flame to get fire going quickly with minimum fuss. Keep the electric thing in your pack too by all means if you want, but it's not the first thing I'm going to grab when I want fire right now.

I bought 120 Scripto lighters at Business Costco for $8 on sale a few years back.
Gave a bunch away and still keep finding them all over the house, garage, truck.

You might as well use some steel wool and a 9 volt battery instead of purchasing this.

I like a magnesium Rod and flint. Use your knife to create a small pile of magnesium shavings, then strike the spine of your your knife on the flint to ignite the magnesium shavings. Burns white hot and will ignite anything.

Not much good for cigars though.
