That does sound vaguely familiar.

I feel infringed a little more every day listening to our AG, Governor, and the majority of our state legislators.

A great many states have laws that effectively outlaw the unorganized militia or training of groups in use or arms.

The militia acts essentially give national guard, organized state militia and unorganized militia along with statutory power to the executive branch to call up the militias.

For intents and purposes in most states one wishing to engage in militia duties/activities the options are (not counting enlistment in armed forces) the national guard, state guard (aka state organized militia under command of the governor) or you are in your own.

Long gone are the days where the local militia was the backbone of community and the first line of defense or aid to county sheriff.

Want to 'militia'? Tread very carefully.

Best way to proceed would be to set up training classes at a local range. Use the NRA or NSSF class material to train.
Teaching classes on marksmanship, firearm handling, shooting, etc... would accomplish the goal here, allow "groups" (who ever said it could be classes for basically the same people!) to train together.

shoot if you look at most of the competition clubs and shooting events most of the participants are basically the same people. Step away from legal issues and opent he events to anyone and you have no issues.

Didn't they call those who aided the Sheriff a posse? According to all the Western's they consisted of anyone not too drunk to sit on a horse and could leave town at a moments notice to chase bad guys.
