Electric, yes. Takes too much power to use in 5 ton.

You said 3 months of food right? Are you preparing 3 months of food in advance or doing this while on the road?

Depending on where you end up geographically and the time of the year, I bet you could dehydrate food by rigging drying racks to use the heat from the top of the 5 ton.

Sort of a solar oven type thing.

Heck, you could probably use solar power to power an electric dehydrator.

They do have solar ovens. It probably wouldn't be too hard to rig up a solar dehydrator

Dehydrated foods are the way to go IMO.

I dehydrated a SHIT TON of fruits, meat and veggies last summer and ate them all through the winter.

Dried Mangoes with a dash of chili powder are the shit.

Did you grow mangoes? I thought they were a tropical fruit.

BTW: I agree: dried mangoes are the shizzle. I've never tried them with chili powder.

I wish I could grow them. I bought several pounds from Carpinito's in Kent a bunch of times and did big batches.

You just hang it outside in the sun. Decent sunshine will dry fruits n veggies pretty quickly.

The sun will even dry out your old shirts and pant to!

Poor mans vacuum sealer,,,

Put crap inside a ziplock. Zip the bag ALMOST all the way, then insert a straw and suck out the remaining air and then pull the straw out while zipping the end shut quickly.

It works amazingly well and it CHEAP. Straws and ziplocks are cheap. The bags can be reused, even washed out if your real broke (I mean cheap) and one straw will last until you loose it.

I apologize, I don't remember if I mentioned.. I wanna do this hand power.. I have a vacuum sealer now, it's pretty good. but I wanna get away from consumables. I can reseal a jar a 1000 times, I have to cut bags open....

I want something I can plop onto a can/jar, and pump it a couple times to get the air out..

I think this is the closest I've found..https://www.amazon.com/4-Pack-Fermentat ... B0772FXZMR

I still appreciate your ideas...

If you want to use canning jars...

You don't need a machine, if you can suck on the end of a straw/tube.

This uses the regular canning jar lid. No need to buy a bunch of special lids.

Speaking of sucking on the end of a straw...

This works best if you use something like a sponge, or wadded up dishrag, to press down on the bag, over the straw. (Lay the bag on a flat surface, of course.)

Those little red straws from cans of WD40 and such things are pretty sturdy, and work great for this. You can usually find a few of them loose near the wd40 in the store.
