So this is an easy answer for the majority here. What is your security plan? Well, my guns...
But for those that don’t want a firearm now but may want one in cases of an extreme emergency there are quite a few options.
I remember when the JIC - Just In Case shotguns came out. Basically a pump in a plastic storage tote. Well, there are folks that for one reason or another don’t want a firearm in the house right now but would also want one for those “extreme” emergencies for security.
Well how about the P80? Not a firearm. Can’t shoot or function. Legal for almost anyone. Pieces of paperweights until the time to make it something better.
Sadly, there isn’t anyone selling a “Whole Kit” from start to finish all the basic parts to make it functional. Sure one can buy all the parts... but one has to know what they need.
In this case - they don’t need a map or parts list... they really need all of it in one place.

But just back to basics. So just a plain Jane OEM type build is in order.
So I have asked Brad’s Guns out of Lake Tapps to put one together. $520’ish out the door (includes tax). Everything one needs - no fuss no problems (within reason). Please note this is no thrills. Just all the basic parts to build (one stop, one buy).
Please contact them directly here or on their website for more details.

Sure there is. I've bought one online, I just don't remember where off the top of my head. Brownell's maybe? I'll look it up...

Firearms are a binary system. You must have 1) a firearm and 2) the ability to use it. Sadly, our country is full of firearms owners that can't hit anything. First hand experience and my friends/acquaintances in the instructor world confirms this.
Someone that refuses to learn how to shoot shouldn't keep a gun around in case of an emergency. S*** or get off the pot, as it were.

Well I can confirm that even among firearm owners. Does not mean one can shoot. Lol
As an instructor. I have seen... a lot
Your premise is grounded in some logic but it’s not Free choice. One would think I would be very pro on instruction being mandatory and I would be happy to correct you - it is not.
I would suggest getting instruction but I would be totally against mandating such as it clearly violets our freedom and would be a slippery slope to losing our 2A rights in the future.

I have little time or interest in helping people prep when they can't be bothered to embrace a fundamental skill and tool. The only thing I'll attempt is to change their mindset. If someone claims to be of the mindset of preparing for a emergency but can't bear owning or learning to use the most effective and common tools, then said person isn't really of the mindset of preparing for a violent disaster. End of analysis. I often hear these anti-gun fools say that they don't want a gun in the house, they have a bat, or a club, or a big iron skillet, or a butcher knife. Um. Okay. So they are 1) recognizing that a violent attack might occur, and 2) recognizing their life might be in peril, and 3) willing to use a violent and deadly response in hand to hand combat, but 4) unwilling to accept/learn/use the most effective personal defense weapon available. Or if their plan is to call the cops, effectively relying on the response time of OTHER people with guns... That is a severe disconnect. It's like 1+1=0. Person needs to apply logic. The analogy would be if your neighbor asked you to help him water his plants, but you can't use a bucket or a hose and just had to scoop water out of a pool with your hands and run across the lawn with handfuls of water. Or your step mom asked you to come over and dig a ditch, but when you arrive with a shovel, she says "no shovels allowed, use your hands or sticks." Or a "prepper" wants help prepping but refuses to stored canned, cured, or otherwise any dried goods and only eats fresh foods. Or you stop to help a stranded motorist with a flat tire. It just needs air. You get a air compressor but he refuses to let you use it and insists you blow up the tire with your lungs and mouth...

Don't mean to rain on the parade Oldkim, I like the concept, however if SHTF chances are there will be no power. And if one is not handy with tools and has no access to a drill press, mill, dremel due to power, they will not be able to complete a P80. I have seen a few guys do P80, they take some fiddling and accurate cutting/drilling to work properly, I consider myself mechanically inclined and I would not want to try it with hand tools. Lot simpler to have the weapon done before shtf, afterwards/during is too late. Then as mentioned there is the training and weapon use aspect.

You guys are funny.
Blah blah blah.
Ideally I would win the lotto and retire and have my own range, etc.
Ideally life should be perfect. Ideally there would be no wars. Ideally there would be no need for firearms in the world. Ideally some people shouldn’t breath either.
The problem is when and who gets to decide. For me, I hope not you. (Don’t get your panties all in a bunch - I wouldn’t want anyone to decide).
Yes, ideally situation and circumstance would ideally be different.
I live in the real world. I would always rather give a person the chance than not. It’s their decision.
It’s the true American Value. If, They don’t hurt me or you. Hell let them do it!

till you realize that you are using untrained hands to machine and assemble a firearm. Think about it. someone who knows absolutely nothing about firearms, building a gun. That seems really like a disaster waiting to happen. Buying a complete Glock and disassembling it would be so much safer for everyone involved. With a significantly less chance of them hurting themselves or someone else unintentionally. And at a smaller price.
And a question: Do you believe that making ghost guns less expensive and easier to purchase is in the best interest of society in general?

Man... stop buying guns. Lol This is turning into an epic fail. Sure you think it’s me. But really it’s a fail on the community. You guys are shooting it down because the person you deem doesn’t have firearms training. Doesn’t know firearms. Doesn’t own a firearm. Doesn’t know how to machine or follow directions. You do realize you are making the same vailed arguments... d’oh! And 100% Yes. Law abiding citizens that have guns. Hmmm. OMG! It’s a sad day today.

Who are these unprepared preppers you seek to help? Family members? Neighbors?
Best solution: Buy and store LOTS of guns and ammo at your house. When SHTF and they all turn to you, tell them to turn around and bend over. Give them a strong kick in the ass for being fools and then hand them a shovel. Once they've dug an entrenchment, hand them an AR, a bandolier, and a duty/watch schedule.

You do realize you just put into writing a crime in this state.
Just saying. Please note I did not copy your post.
Plus you got to know all my firearms were lost in a tragic boating accident... just saying.

I also echo the notion that a non-gun family is not going to be able to acquire the skills and knowledge or training to build or become very useful in gun related activities.
They won't have the time, location, or ammo to practice. No YT videos to watch and learn. Not like they are gonna break out the tools and build a gun and then use their 1 box of ammo to train with...
Other than a legal restrictions, or serious financial difficulties (of which few have to the extent of not affording a gun and ammo), I have yet to hear a good reason to NOT be armed. Seriously.
They need to realize that SHTF can happen right now with someone kicking in the front door looking for drugs or meth money... "Prepping" isn't just some far off notion for some cataclysmic future event...
