I saw a killer deal on some Jim Beam, so I decided to add bourbon to my preps. Figure, in a stressful situation, a little booze will settle the nerves and it could make excellent trading stock! :-) I figure a few 40MM cans worth will do it for now:

This far better in trade and use during any scenario.
Can obviously be traded readily for goods/services.
If you travel to Oregon - no tax too boot!

Goes well in the first aid kit, too.

This and tobacco. Extremely valuable commodities in a SHTF scenario. Probably more valuable than food or ammo depending upon whom you're bartering with.

I bet liquor keeps/stores better/longer than tobacco. If nobody rats you out, I bet you can grow tobacco easier than distill liquor.

So this is simple math.
1) Go to a neighboring state. (No tax, no liquor tax) 2) cases of what you drink - its not like it’s going to go bad. 3) Enjoy over time 4) if you need to use it for other bartering... you have it.
I went ahead and bought 6 cases of various brands on a trip to Oregon last year. I don’t drink a lot but I really don’t like paying the almost double the tax on top of tax.

Had a buddy in N Seattle whose parents made moonshine in their basement. Had 4-5 plastic garbage cans filled with a mixture of water, cracked corn, sugar, and yeast. Old school copper loop coil atop a huge pressure cooker. Shelves full of gallon milk jugs filled with 190 proof white lightning, said it cost about $5 a gallon to make. We used to take a couple jugs hunting or camping. Got shitfaced and kept the fire going strong.
Note: Records for all still purchases are submitted to ATF and the local liquor control board by any legit still manufacturer or seller. Even if you say it's for fuel, research, or distilling water.

my only suggestion for alcohol for preps is to store/keep clear liquor like vodka or Everclear. reason being that clears are a lot friendlier in the medicinal uses, and with Everclear you get twice the punch per volume, and it's relatively cheap

Hmmmm. I like this "Prepping" excuse. Next time my wife gives me a hard time about how much whiskey I have, I'll just tell her it's part of our emergency provisions!!
