I guess it would be a need, I pack my fire stuff so as not to put pressure on the top of the Bic, I carry the other standard fire start stuff, never is the lighter loose in the pack that it would, I don't think I've ever had an accidental gas discharge from my lighters.

I've never had an issue with my bic lighters. I carry a sparky rod, but have never needed it in more than 30 years. My bic(s) sits in my cook pot with my stove, which also has a piezo lighter built in.

I carried a Zippo in the service, then switched, unless you get free with your wallet for a sealed one,bic

then I quit needing one daily about 6yrs ago, nice to be free. :wink05:
