The only way to create an emp is with a nuclear or very large bomb. If it hits close enough for the emp to knock out your vehicle, it's probably close enough to take you out as well.

It's not that I'm against vans,

Just make sure you have Dreadi's number in your phone...

Realistically, wouldn't the best thing to have in a bug out situation (which should be rare, I can't think of many situations where bugging in wouldn't be better), wouldn't the most important option be something that gets good gas mileage first, with offloading capability second? Maybe a Suzuki Samurai.

Id be happy with mine for the time being.

Reliable.
Good off road.
Decent gas mileage.
Decent amount of cargo room.
Parts everywhere.
Yes they are kinda ugly, but so are most of you. :thumbsup2:

I would want to be able to

1. swap my wheel (with mounted, aired tires) for one of many many out there
2. take fuel from a wide variety of sources
3. drive over curbs or other minor obstructions
4. see people approaching from any angle

Personally I think 2wd is going to be fine, and a van is great. They've got a lot of clearance, simple drivelines. A stock van means you can replace driveshafts out of the junk yard (or parking lot...).
Diesel is great because it can run on more than just diesel.

Van also means you can hang out inside, without the big flip-up tent that tells everyone 'someone is in here'. You can go from the driver's seat to everything in the back.

I've lived in a truck and a van, and the van was much better. Especially for incognito camping.

A sprinter expedition van would probably be ideal. Small diesel for good mileage/range. On board water. 4wd with some clearance for basic rough terrain navigation. Relatively quiet compared to most V8 4wd rigs. Good sleeping and storage arrangement. Seems pretty ideal.

I'd love one. Could sell my condo to afford it lol...

To me, one question is 'where to go'? I think I'd like to spend the election period in Idaho.

Gotta know people I’d assume. We have family on property way out of town. Livestock, well, fully sustainable off grid and only about 35 minutes drive with multiple routes for access. That’s option 1. Option 2 is the family boat. 45’ with 600 gallons of fuel and 400 gallons of fresh water. On the water is definitely more open than I prefer. Good stand off area but if you get caught off guard it could be bad being that exposed. On the upside with enough food and smart water rationing it could support 4-6 people for a couple months without coming in to shore.

Decisions. Decisions.

Wrong! Nuclear detonation is clearly not the only way to create and EMP. There are many man made and natural means to do so.

Wrong again! High altitude bursts are typically used for EMP purposes. That's not to say that a ground bust won't also generate an EMP.

I would never "bug out". Leave most of my guns/food/water/misc gear?...……...No.

Ok, sure there are lots of ways to cause an emp, but we are talking about a weaponzied emp on a mass scale that would render all vehicles/electronics inoperable in a wide area.

Got an example that would do that without a large bomb?
