1909-14 years of T’s came in four colors—red, green, gray, and blue—none were black.

15-25 were black only.

26 could have been black or shade of green and one of maroon.

27 could have been black or a host of shades of various colors. 9 besides black IIRC.

I’ll find the whole list somewhere and post it later when I do.

Personally I like the maroon shade from 1926. With the black fenders. Looks rich.

You just love disproving my childhood history books, don't you? :ROFLMAO:

Well, he did say that, to a point.

In 1909 at a design and marketing meeting:

Any customer can have a car painted any color that he wants so long as it is black.

He was over ruled initially by the other designers and marketing staff, but by 1915 he won out, although by 26 processes changed and Ford Motor Co was getting feedback from customers that more color choices would be nice. Mostly by them buying competitor cars in other colors. The black at the time was the easiest color to paint efficiently with the processes they had at that time period.

Another ironic quote from Ford:

History is more or less bunk. It's tradition. We don't want tradition. We want to live in the present, and the only history that is worth a tinker's damn is the history that we make today." (Chicago Tribune, 1916).

So as far as what he said and when he said it. He wouldn’t think much of it being remembered anyway.

Actually, Henry didn’t care about anything but the bottom line. Japan Black lacquer paint dried faster than anything else, keeping the production line humming at top speed banging out as many cars per hour as was humanly possible.

I'm willing to bang out some minor old school welding if you need it.(Bring it to me, i dont want to drag my gear down there) I do hammer welding on my rigs. Infact Wednesday and Thursday i banged out the dash on my dad's t that i'm doing. I was cutting it to remove the steering cutout and replace it with a flat to attach the '38ish column drop i'm using. I'm not offering top grade work but i can do something that looks quality. I can do perfect stuff, i just dont like doing it, except on my some of my own stuff...

Thank you Shaggy! This old girl has seen heavy use and is rough looking. She wouldn’t know what to do with a perfect weld anyway!

How about posting up pics of some of your projects? Would love to follow along with your work!

Now THAT is what I am secretly hoping for.

Not some trailer queen.

Not some perfect, pristine, prima-donna that you are afraid to even touch for fear of putting a scratch on it.

But something that says, "I'm here, because I'm tough. The world hasn't beaten me yet. I can take it. Give me something to DO!"

Colors : Black, dark or drab green, brown.
That beautiful truck will stand out for what it is. Making it flashy would be like trying to gild the lily.

I far prefer my vehicles to have a few "heavy use" marks. I felt much better about the newish family Suburban several years ago after I was backing a manure trailer into a tight spot by the raspberries and slid into a metal fence post.

And for Arisaka. I'm running a prepaid trash phone. I do have legit cameras but I'd be either taking photos and getting them online or building stuff. I'll definitely post stuff when done.

DP40 flat black primer is hard as nails then a flat black enamel would look killer the way it is. :wink05:
Whatever color will suffice, it's your baby.

All we need is a booth big enough to blast it all, and a booth big enough to spray it all, and a booth big enough to bake it all (unless you prefer the air cured variety)....then I can Cerakote it.

I’m going to leave it black, Jim. Waguns has spoken, and my sisters also wanted it black.

I could ignore all that, but my wife said black too. Can’t ignore that shit.

If you don't paint it safety green now, you've got no guts. :wink05:
