Sent a PM about cutting.

Anyone else?

Has anyone ever tumble polished quartz crystal?

I'm curious whether that would affect it's piezo and other unusual qualities?

Yes I have had quartz of various varieties......AND I have no idea on the second portion. Maybe googlize it.

I got really excited yesterday afternoon. No it was not the 90°F heat. I had acquired a batch of various rough "gem" crystals....more lapis and some rough green opal, rose quartz, tourmaline, various fluorites. I did a very short tumble with the rough grit (3 days). Too long and things disappear. So I sluice it out rinse and brush. (on the back lawn, needed water) / Holy MOTHER OF GOD. Some really nice colored crystals of decent size! Of course I didn't stop and take pictures. Will do 3-4 days medium . My wife may be getting the emerald I promised....hehehehehehe

I still owe pictures of the previous batch. Shoot.

You got some stones, Pablo. Looking good.

If you ever have the time, it would be fun to see the before and after photos of individual samples. I'm always amazed when you can get something so cool out of something that starts out as a plain old rock!

TBH sometimes I don't know which rock started as what.....but the general idea is too not think of it as polishing at first, first step is more of a rind removal. Coarse and medium do that. Course also really rounds the edges off.

Here is a picture of a couple of the "gems" right after medium. I may go longer than usual in the fine and polish, and really shortened up the coarse and medium. I feel like that is the unspoken secret. Times at grits.............all the experts talk hardness and that is absolutely key. Softer fluorites and such will just grind to nothing, BUT it's tough to know what the real hardness of your rocks are beyond book hardness. And it does not help that I have a brass tumbler which is 2X RPM, with speed controller maybe 1.5X standard RPM. These for the most part I know what is what.

Sooner or later Pablo, you are going to have to figure out what to do with a whole shitpile of polished rocks.
