Did you install a new power supply with the new case? If so, try the old power supply.
Does the new MB have on board video? If so, try removing the video card.
What is the exact model of the new MB?
got your pm but i'm at work and can't really talk on the phone at the moment, but thanks, much appreciated!
the only new part is the case itself, but last night, when i moved everything over to the old case, same problems persisted.

i'm wondering if i screwed up where i put the power cables to the power supply. at any rate, i think i reached my limit, and i'm going to drop it off at Computer Concepts in Bothell tomorrow morning. thanks for your help, i'll definitely follow up and post what the problem was if they find it... sucks that my wife has to use my computer for a few days and i have to use my laptop lol
