This Friday, Jan 17, 2020, will mark the 100th anniversary of the implementation of the Volstead Act/18th Amendment which forced Prohibition on the nation. Quote: The three distinct purposes of the Act were: 1. to prohibit intoxicating beverages, 2. to regulate the manufacture, production, use, and sale of high-proof spirits for other than beverage purposes, 3. to insure an ample supply of alcohol and promote its use in scientific research and in the development of fuel, dye, and other lawful industries. It provided further that "No person shall on or after the date when the eighteenth amendment to the Constitution of the United States goes into effect, manufacture, sell, barter, transport, import, export, deliver, furnish or possess any intoxicating liquor except as authorized in this Act, and all the provisions of this Act shall be liberally construed to the end that the use of intoxicating liquor as a beverage may be prevented." The act defined intoxicating liquor as any beverage containing 0.5% or more alcohol by volume and superseded all existing prohibition laws in effect in states that had such legislation. This extremely low limit on allowed alcohol content, banning wine and beer, took many around the country by surprise, even Prohibition supporters. --Wikipedia In reading about what led up to this, I find a lot of parallels to the current climate and gun control. It’s interesting that many states had already imposed their own bans on alcohol and a lot of the anti-booze movement was funded and urged by groups very similar to the anti-gun groups of today. It was “moms” looking out for the “welfare of the children” and their push was purely emotional and without basis in any logic or facts. Once the constitution was amended to allow Prohibition and the nation went dry, there were a lot of people caught off guard who hadn’t really paid attention beforehand. It took 13 years of fighting it and a gradual shift in the national conscience to eventually pass the 21st amendment repealing Prohibition. It makes me slightly hopeful that even if the anti’s get their way as far as guns now, that the American public will eventually correct it. It just will suck in the meantime. So keep the fight going, enjoy your guns, keep stirring the rebellion even if we lose, and enjoy your intoxicating beverages because that fight has already been fought and won. (Just don’t drink and handle firearms at the same time. Be responsible, people!) But for the love of guns, people, let's fight this before it happens! Keep writing!!

Prohibition was a joke from the get-go. Routinely ignored and sparsely enforced, it created organized crime almost overnight. And this at a time when most folks respected government. And this opposition was in regards to eliminating a lifestyle choice (drinking alcoholic beverages), not a Constitutional right (keeping/bearing arms). Fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a wild ride in the USA in the very near future.

Don't forget to have barges full of guns and ammo anchored just off the coast ready for prohibition to be repealed...

Hate to burst your bubble, but your local police department has nothing near 'high technology'. The (very large) department I retired from five years ago had a report writing system that did not include spell check and it was still issuing CARBON PAPER to the patrol troops.

Just because your department was incompetent doesn't mean they all are

My guess is that most enforcement would occur during traffic stops and incident responses where "contraband" items are "discovered" and seized.

Incompetent? Nope; just stuck with low bid equipment. And believe me, amigo, ALL police departments suffer from the same malady.

They still have local prohibition (dry counties) in Texas and a few other states.
We were grocery shopping Sunday morning and discovered you cant buy beer until after 12pm noon on Sundays.

Here's one of our deep thinkers thoughts on prohibition and gun control. You can't make this up: https://defconnews.com/2020/01/14/rappe ... bare-arms/Quote: And it can also get prohibited like the time alcohol was but guess what ? It was allow again with regulations and strict rules and now people drink responsibly Oh, and she wants to run for congress...after she goes back to school for a while...

If you go take a tour, they can't offer you any in the tasting room. Conversely, when I used to live in Florida, they had places called Brew Throughs where you could order a mixed drink in a drive through. No idea if they still exist, but it used to be a thing.

Upon giving serious thought to our current situation, I think that the push by the left to institute controls and Socialism is leading to a rise in Libertarian thought. Many Libertarian Democrats have left the party (eg Dave Rubin), claiming there is no room for Libertarians in the DNC. That doesn't mean they will be voting Republican, but they wont be voting Democrat, which is a win.
I am optimistic that we are witnessing the last days of the Democratic Party (at least the Socialist wing of it). If the DNC survives (literally as in the party members still breathing air) it will be because they lose power and control, allowing Conservatives and or Libertarians to undue the damage.
Abe Lincoln once said that the best way to get a bad law repealed was to enforce it strictly, in other words people need to feel the pain before they will get off their asses and make a change. I think the damage to the Bill of Rights has been deep enough or will soon be deep enough to see that happen.
If not the 3% will have to do what they did 200+ years ago, feed the tree of liberty, either way I am confident that we will not see gun confiscation and Socialism in America

Prohibition did give us NASCAR, which is either a good or a bad thing depending on how you look at it. I do think people will need to feel some real impairment in their lives before they get fired up enough to start fixing what the hard left is busy fucking up. No guesses on what new sport might spring from that movement.
