My 18 year old son had mentioned a few weeks back he might want to get into Bow Hunting. Fast forward a couple weeks and the young Man bought himself a nice Bow and did the Hunter's Ed class. (I'm not a Hunter myself)
He came over this weekend, (He lives at his Mom's house) and brought his Bow.

I must say that Compounds these day's are Space age, it's a far cry from when i had a Bear Whitetail Hunter Compound back around 1977 as a 13 year old.
Anyway, before the day was over i had 2 Alfalfa bales and 2 Straw bales in my Backyard and an Archery range.

With Bow speeds these day's i need to add some rigid foam insulation between the Alfalfa bales and the Straw bales though. I had to make a gap between the bales to be able grab the Arrows and push them back through the first bale layer or they were buried at 50lbs draw weight. (His Bow shoots up to 70lbs)

Now my Young Man is a Lefty, so i couldn't shoot his Bow and i was feeling left out. It's kinda like Baseball, it's much more fun to play than watch.

So what did i do? I spent 3 hours at Sportsman's Warehouse in Federal Way today selecting a Bow, getting it fitted and tuned and test firing it. Hat's off to Mark in the Archery Shop, that was some great Customer service.

While i certainly didn't need another Hobby or expense, it's all worth it to find another thing that my Son and i can spend time together doing. :thumbsup2:

How many of you guy's are Bow shooter's? We all have Guns, but are any of you guy's into Bows too?

I’d love to get into them but if I keep bringing home new hobbies we’re going to need a bigger house...

Practice, practice and practice ... then learn how to stalk. Hard work.

I have one. Nothin' fancy, and I don't practice near enough to be good with it, I think I keep it around because of how quiet it is, coolest thing about 'em.

Been an archery shooter for about 45 years. Have a 50 yard range in the back yard. I started my son when he was 7. Now, we both shoot 70 lb compounds, except during Bowfishing. There we step down to 30 lb bows. It’s a great father-son sport! My son and I spent many, many hours and days together in head-to-head competitions. I’m still a bit better than him, but he kills me in trap/skeet/sporting clays. We are a push in pistols and rifles.

i have a recurve and a compound. they are both incredibly fun to work with.

i'd highly recommend some courses for proper use. a few years back i went through the 101, 102, and 103 courses at Next Step Archery based out of the Nock Point in Edmonds. Great people and highly recommended: https://www.nextsteparchery.org/

My son got a BowTech Icon Carbon, i didn't get into it that far for backyard shooting. I bought an Elite Ember, just a good starter bow that came out this Year.
I'm about to go shoot it for the 1st time.

bowhunting is and bow shooting are great times
i am too old to pull back a good bow any more but i can use
a cross bow it just is hard to set it.
my son hunts with a compund at 60 pounds he got a nice little
2 point this year at 40 yards drilled it heart lung on right side clean pass through and deer
went down about 100 yards away. he got a 6x6 rocky mtn elk in montana last year at 64 yards drilled right side elk ran a ways but he
took out the heart with a muzzie elk are tough

i got a 6x7 rosy at grays river in 1966 with a 64 inch recurve made by Emmit Ries at fasco archery in 1960.
i miss bow hunting a lot. getting old is no fun but i make it fun with beautiful pictures and nice rifles ha ha
