I am planning a day out to Ft Lewis (JBLM) Range 15. http://www.jblmmwr.com/pdf/nw_adv/shoot ... 20info.pdfSaturday, April 23, 2011 10-2pm (range is open from 10-3pm) This is an opportunity for you to try out some rifles of all kinds (AR, AK, Sig, etc) I'll have a full listing for those that RSVP. Here's my write up on WGO regarding Range 15 viewtopic.php?f=43&t=382 Basics: Range 15 Joint Base Lewis McChord (use East Gate) Cost: $5 (paid to range) Anyways, here is what I have planned if you wanted to join us. This range is becoming more and more popular so I ask for those folks intending shoot with us not to actually take a firing lane unless there is lots of openings. We'll have some core rifles for you to shoot. You pay for the ammo and we'll have lots of guns for you to try out. We'll have some AR, AK, Sig556, Sig522 and more. You can shoot up to 300 meters if you want but we'll keep targets close 50-100 meters. Here's how it will work (tentatively) Range 15: You'll sign in (name and CIV - for civilian status), pay your $5 for the lane fee, you get a free target with the fee and see us on the far right of the rifle range. At the benches we'll set up 3-4 shooting stations and have a selection of firearms for you to try out. You can shoot your own if you wish but again I don't want to take over the whole range (they may get mad and trump us with the "gotta have a sponsor" card). Mostly it's training and familiarization with different rifles and such. We'll do breakdown and marksmanship skills too. Just depends on how many folks go. I would like to have folks RSVP so we can coordinate a meeting place so we can all caravan to the range at one time and so I have a head count and also I can send the listing of rifles we'll have on hand. I ask that you don't buy ammo since there will be many different types and depending on the firearm and owner - they may want a specific brand/load. So it's just easier if you pay the owner. Basically bring lots of $1 and $5 so we don't have to make change. I'll have a price sheet up and for those RSVP'ing I'll let you know what we have for you (what firearms and cost, etc for you to try out). Again, we're not making money doing these. We want to be fair to the owner and at least recoup the ammo cost. If you have a firearm you wish to share - let me know. We'll work out the details. RSVP to oldkim@aol.com by Thursday, April 21 5pm The shooting positions are covered so we're planning rain or shine.

I'm a little confused on the $$ part. I realize paying for ammo, that is a given but unsure whether or not you meant to charge a fee for shooting the rifle?????

It's just paying for the ammo.
No rifle or gun charges.
So, you pay the range for the range fee $5.
You pay the guy you are shooting his gun and ammo - you just reimburse the ammo cost. We're not going to nickel and dime so I just rounded a bit up for .223 and stuff.
No fee to attend for coordinating this or anything else. Just a day out for shooters to share what they have and for folks to experience guns they would never normally have the opportunity to go "play" with.

Do we have to pay just to come in to check the place out or watch?

To just observe or watch... nope.
Just make sure you still use the East Gate access. Meaning don't go through the post (the secured part of the base). You just don't need the hassle and wait of getting onto post.
Make sure you don't go too fast and ensure all firearms are unloaded (no CPL since this is still part of the Federal military installation)... just not the "secured" part.

For those of you coming to Ft. Lewis tomorrow, I'll have some WaGuns gear with me: http://waguns.org/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=270So if you want to be stylin' like MassiveDesign, let me know. Okay, maybe that's not the best sales tactic . . . .

Great Day! Thanks everyone for coming out. We had a young lad who just joined the Marines - shipping out for "boot camp" this summer. He got to shoot everything we had. Shot some history and some modern stuff. Beautiful day out today. Couldn't ask for better. Well, until next time.... stay safe!

+1, it was lots of fun and of course the weather was gorgeous.
Thank you, Young, for organizing it!
And speaking of shooting "history," I've got a couple of rifles that shot some "historical" ammo today and need some immediate cleaning... off I go!
