Guys and Gals!!

We are running a special for all of the WAGuns members. And are trying to reward the forums a little because you guys have been a great group of customers.

You go to our shopping cart at http://jcsteeltargets.com and then click on products.

Add anything you want to the cart, then you can enter discount coupon code WAGUNS2015 and it will take off 10%. Code is case sensitive.

As always, take advantage of our flat rate $19.99 shipping. On one target or 100, does not matter, the same flat rate.

We appreciate all the support from WaGuns members, and want to say thanks. Currently everything is in stock and ready to rock. Going to let this sale go for another couple weeks. Then we will shut it down

Again, coupon code is WAGUNS2015 and its case sensitive.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the work that Jake does, check out the "About Us" section of his web page:

When we buy steel products, this kicks in:

Quote:
Jubilee Leadership Academy also has a welding/fabricating shop to teach students how to weld, cut, and fabricate steel goods. Most students come into Jubilee with no real world skills, so teaching them these skills will hopefully give them a leg up in the real world they will go back to live in.

I have a number of steel plates that I've bought from Jake. They've taken all kinds of abuse, including 3/8" plate at 40 yards with steel-core Mosin ammo . . . and lots of it. If you hang them and let them swing (rather than rigidly bolting them), they'll take darn near a lifetime of abuse. It's just the stand that needs to be replaced or repaired periodically!

Since most people don't want to buy a whole stack of plates, sometimes the best way to do this is to consolidate orders. I'll volunteer to place an order to be delivered to me in Renton, so for folks willing to come to Renton to pick up their stuff, chime in or PM me and I'll add you to my list.

If anyone is willing to start an order from somewhere else (Olympia? Everett?), also chime in here and let's get this rolling!

would be nice to have a stand and targets, but I don't know anything about shooting steel. What will 3/8" AR500 hold up to at what distance vs. 1/2"? What's AR400 vs AR500. What are issues shooting steel I should knno about? That sort of thing. Wanna help me out?

Well . . . I'll throw a few things out there.

AR500 is harder than AR400. Most targets you see for sale are AR500, and since the targets themselves aren't all that expensive I wouldn't mess around with anything less.

I've found that even 3/8" AR500 will hold up to pretty much any normal calibers. I do think it's important how you mount them; if you hang them and let them swing when hit, they'll be fine. If you hard-mount them to a rugged mount, then the targets will eventually warp from getting shot.

I've shot 3/8" swinging targets at 40 yards with Mosin steel-core and .30-06, and it barely affected it. For me . . . I'm perfectly happy with 3/8" targets.

When shooting steel targets, you want them angled down slightly, and preferably able to swing. This means that when you hit the target, the bullet will splatter down in to the dirt rather than back at you. You CAN get splatter occasionally though, so you want to keep a certain minimum distance. I generally use 10 yards for pistol shooting, and maybe 50 yards for rifle.

For casual shooting, steel targets are FUN! When you hit them, they move and they go *BONG*! It beats the hell out of shooting paper, for sure....

Of course, if you're measuring sub-MOA group sizes, then paper is what you want.

Would like to get t-post mounts for the club so we can hang the 1/2 8" plate that I donated to the club permanently at 100 yards. My wish would be to duplicate the setup with a 1/2 10" plate as well.

I think that would be a great idea. It would be cool to have some more permanent plate options out there.

Okay, sounds like 3/8" is good enough for most folks. I'm in. I'll put together a short list for the Olympia order shortly.
We still have time right, like another week?

Yes, I assume we have about a week left, based on Jake's original post.

I have a 1/2 6" square plate I can donate to the club. So If we can get T-post mounts that will work for the 6" and 8" that will give a couple of smaller options than the two large plates we already have out there. I'm in for 3 t-post mounts. Two 6" mounts and one 7.5" mount. The two 6" mounts I will donate to the club and should work for the 6" square and 8" round. The 7.5" I will keep for myself to mount the 3/8 10" round plate at 100 yards when I am there. I would just donate it but it's 3/8 plate and wont last long out there with the pounding the steel when left for the public.

Steve hit the nail on the head for shooting steel.

I will say the AR400 as targets is fairly dangerous. You can get hurt with steel flying back at you. Its just too soft and not meant to be shot at.

If anyone has any more questions, you are more than free to hit me up anytime.

Going to run the sale for another week and a half. then will shut it down.

Thanks guys
