I use the pistol check in all the time down the Thurston Co courthouse and have never had an issue.

Their website is no longer correct. It's not been updated either accidentally or to deter people from carrying.
I've emailed the directer and he was very clear that they do not and can not prohibit legal carry there. Whomever is renting the venue can, but Seattle Center itself can not.

This is the total opposite of the Tacoma Dome where they do prohibit even off duty police, and have turned away an off duty federal agent because he was armed. Unlike Seattle though, they have not been sued yet.

Their website is correct, but has conflicting information. Hence the reason for this thread.

I used the pistol check at Grocery Outlet the other day.

I didn't know you were supposed to reclaim it within 15 minutes, or you forfeit the gun. :shocked4:

Man, I really liked that hi-point.

So they did finally.

It's funny that the Key Arena can be more restrictive than the rest of Seattle Center. I get that whomever rents it could prohibit firearms, but how can Seattle Center itself?

There was a time when they said that if you didn't want to lock your firearm up you would have to tell them your seat number so the police would know where you were . For a reason that was never actually listed.
Prior to that the line about all firearms except for on duty police was the only thing it said, even for a couple years after they admitted they couldn't do it if you asked.

So, here's an update based on my experience tonight. I had free tickets to tonight's Tim McGraw and Faith Hill "Soul2Soul" Tour concert. I walk up with my wife (I'm lawfully carrying concealed), and they are wanding people as they enter the bag check area. No big deal. I tell the lady wanding me "I need a gun check locker", and she ignores me and continues to use the wand. The wand passes my back at the 4 o'clock position and obviously goes off. I tell her again, I need a locker to store my pistol. She tells me to lift my shirt. I oblige, telling her yet again I need to check my pistol into storage. She sees my pistol and looks somewhat alarmed. About then I figured out that this lady is not particularly adept at English, and that's why she's ignoring my requests for a locker.

Wand lady calls over a middle-aged blonde woman with a clipboard. Clipboard lady asks me if I'm law enforcement. I tell her no, and she tells me I can't come in with "that". I tell her, for the fourth time now, that I want to check my pistol. She saws pistol check is only for law enforcement. I protest, and say that the website does not say that, and she just repeats herself that the weapon check locker if law enforcement only. I tell her she she's wrong, and she shrugs and tells me to leave. No concert for us.

I'm not sure if there's any recourse. I didn't push to talk to her supervisor/manager, didn't get her name, nothing. I didn't want to seem like a pushy guy with a gun, even though I know I was in the right according to their own rules, so I didn't escalate to a higher up. There were police officers off to the side, so I presumed they would have been able to take me to the lockers as per everyone else's recent experiences.

Looking into it now, it seems that Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are anti-2A since the Vegas shooting, so it's entirely possible that their tour company was responsible for disallowing me the ability to check my gun.

I'm sorry you had that experience, RobSmalls. I was there at that concert tonight too.

I had kind of a similar experience. I was there at the concert tonight as well, and was going to update this thread my experience.

Before the guy even had a chance to wand me, I told him I needed to use one of the secured weapon lockers.

He looked shocked, "Weapon locker? Uh, you need to talk to my supervisor."

I went over to the supervisor and told her I needed to use a weapon locker, and she told me they didn't do that. The wander asked if he should still wand me, and she replied, "I don't think it would do much good since we already know what he has."

I said that it was Key Arena policy to allow a guest access to a secured weapons locker. I said that typically a police officer escorts the individual to the security office to do so.

She said one second and went in and started talking to the two police officers stationed inside the entrance. They came out to where my girlfriend and I were and asked, "So who is the officer?"

We looked at each other and said neither. I said I wasn't an officer and just wanted to access a secured weapons locker. They said that they only do it for off- duty officers. I said that they offered it to any guest per their website.

For whatever reason, they took my word for it. They didn't know where the security office was, but I said it was across from section 120, so they escorted me inside and we found the security office. They knocked in the door and said, "This guy needs to check a firearm? ", the security guard without missing a beat responded "Sure" and started the process of explaining the sheet I needed to fill out.

So, it seems like it is a policy, but one that none of the employees or officers knows about.

When stowing my firearm there were no other used lockers. When I went to pick it up there was only one other locker used, so it seems there was very little success by others.

Go informed, talk to one of the LEO's there as they are the ones who will typically escort you back. Event/Venue staff, especially those outside wanding are typically bottom fish, and won't know the workings of each individual venue.

So Rob, what did you end up doing? Go back and stow it in your car or call it a night and not attend?

We took the ferry over and had no car, so we bailed. I had considered being more insistent and talking to someone higher up, but after she told me to leave, I was concerned about catching a trespassing charge if I pushed it.

With all the wanding and gun buster signs this is why cars are becoming necessary for gun rights.

All it would take for a venue to absolutely prevent you from carrying (and you MUST legally comply) is have the seating area be a totally encompassed beer garden and be 21 and over.

Well, my tickets were free. So it's not a huge loss.
