The IO caption, I would assume, is for people that ONLY have an initial as a middle name...

That's the kicker for me

The definition of "Initial" (in this instance) is that it is the the first letter of a name. It is shorthand for a longer name. If someone's middle name was actually S then it wouldn't be an initial, they'd put 'S' for middle name and leave off the IO

My drivers license has my middle initial only, "S". My middle name is Scott. I've always put "Scott" as my middle name on the 4473. My ID backs this up because the first letter in my middle name is S. Yes, it's a match. The 4473 info goes beyond what my ID indicates but it's a match

I think the hangup is on "exact". Is it the same font? No. Is it the same size? No

Is S the initial for Scott? Yes

Thats the way I understood it.

Unless the form itself demands that you fill in the full name. No middle initial allowed...

Even then, my "full name" as it appears on my DL only has my middle initial.

In fact, that is the way I have always filled it out. And I have never gotten even a delay.

Your full name is your full name

The DOL does not determine your full name

The information must match on the 4473 and your ID.....

Stop making it more complicated than it is...

As I explained: An initial is a match for a longer name that starts with the same letter

You need to rethink how you're making this more complicated than it needs to be

I pretty much explained how initials work

Why would I need to straighten them out?

You're the one that doesn't understand what an initial is

What part of EXACTLY MATCH do you not understand.....
Let me post it again...
The key is that it stipulates the following...
"Do the name, date of birth, and place of residence in Section A on the ATF Form 4473 exactly match the valid government-issued photo identification"

John A. Doe
John Allen Doe
John Adam Doe

Are these EXACT MATCHES...?

John A. Doe matches either of the other two

John Allen Doe does not match John Adam Doe

Pretty sure there was a Sesame Street episode about matching if you want me to look it up for you

Did they by chance send out a memo about these new regulations that you could share with us?

No they didn't...came as a total surprise from one day to the next when calling for a BGC.

BTW.... Maybe you should brush up on what the word EXACTLY means...

exactly
[ig-zakt-lee]
adverb
in an exact manner; precisely; accurately.

One last try....

If on a 4473 if the customer puts down John A. Doe and his Driver's License says....John Adam Doe...

Do those EXACTLY match?

Come on now...even Oscar can figure this out.... :ROFLMAO:

Jeff, I picture you more as a "Schoolhouse Rock" kinda guy than Sesame Street.
