Yeah... I'm tooting my own horn on this one...

I'm on I5 SB @ 320th in FW when I spot a HMMWV on the shoulder...

I pull over.. figuring it's one of the guys on another forum I'm on...

THEN I notice a bunch of rucks.... hahaha

Anyway...

I tow them off the highway.... and talk to them, after some quick troubleshooting I tell them it sounds like they ran out of fuel, but they said their gauge was 'full'.... so they didn't fill up.... hhahhhhahaha

anyway, I get some fuel in there... and have to bleed the air out.... their battery dies so I have to use my slave cable to jump them...so they can keep bleeding....

Their LMTV broke down, so the company wrecker was towing that to JBLM
... which meant they'd be waiting another 4 plus hours...

so.... I ended up just using my knowledge and got them back on the road after about an hour....

They were stoked....

and... it's a weird feeling.... getting to use the knowledge and specialized tools for their intended purpose feels oddly satisfying..... Like slipping on a sock you just got out of the dryer on a cold day...

I told them no one would believe them.... if they said some crazy white guy in an army truck towed them off the road, had all the equipment (tow bar, slave cable, tools, etc), bled their fuel lines, and got them back on the road....

Bahahaha ah...

Side note... While I had the towbar... I had the wrong size feet with me.. SO I need to put them in my truck...

so, I taught them how to use a slave cable and how to bleed the fuel system on a HMMWV..... and they learned not to trust fuel gauges on military rigs... hahahahaha

Well done sir. Every once in a while, our oddballness comes in handy.

Funny enough.... The acting cmdr is a full time FF.... Didn't have his unit challenge coin on him so he gave me his department challenge coin....

The lowest ranking guy was an E4... They kept flipping him shit for not doing proper PMCs.... It was humorous.

Nice!

I like that phrase - "our oddballness comes in handy". Good summary. I'm glad you could help them. If seems you were uniquely equipped to handle the problem.

I never trust a fuel gauge....unless I know my truck. Topping off fuel is a given must, though.
1083/MTV's are easy to check the tank, big ass opening like a Nalgene bottle.
1097/HMMWV's I'll fill until it hits the screen at the top of the fill tube.
