If you want to try pneumatic I have this cylinder cluttering up my shop. I think it’s got a 35” stroke.
43 1/2” retracted. It’s new, never used. Free if you want it.

I ordered from these guys when I needed to replace the struts in my truck tool box: http://www.liftsupportsdepot.com
You’ll have to do some math / design if you’re going to build a door like that pictured. Their web site has tools to help you find the right strut for your application.

Pneumatics & hydraulics need power - or a hand pump - to work. Just unlatch for struts to do their thing. Not saying one is better than the other.

You can also look thru McMaster-Carr or Grainger web sites. Plenty of mech supplies on both sites

Thanks for all the input, fellas This thread was moved , I just found it again.

Andy, appreciate the offer.

For now our build is on hold due to an unfair shared well agreement that may be going to court.

Two words: Counter Weights

Gas struts, hydraulic systems, and electric winches can fail

Gravity isn't just a concept, it's a law
