We haven't truly run out of anything, it'd take a major event indeed for me to exhaust my bourbon stocks, and that still leaves the good (expensive) booze, the rum, the tequila & vodka as fall backs. I came close to running out of de-icing salt, but still had a nearly full shaker left when our local Ace Hardware got in some at 200% normal price, but I also found a nice snow shovel (I'd been using a regular flat blade instead, never again). I also found a 25lb bag on Amazon for half of what we paid today for a 20lb bag which is supposed to be delivered by Wednesday (not holding my breath). We went out Wednesday night and stocked up before the madness, but even if we hadn't, it wouldn't have made much difference, we have lots of food, but going meant we had eggs, bread & milk fresh fruit & veggies for the siege.

The snow's coming down pretty steadily, we've gotten another 6" in the past day or so, and it's looking like we'll get another few inches overnight. My work decided to shut down for the day, and depending on how the snow continues, might do so tomorrow as well (waiting to hear).

My truck is acting up a bit, and I'm not quite convinced it's really going into 4x4 (pneumatic locks), if I have to go into work tomorrow, I'll be turning the manual locks into place before I go.

- Power at home . . . yeah, I worry about losing it. I don't have a generator. I do have gas hot water and a gas living room fireplace, so I'll still have hot water, a gas stove top, and SOME heat in the house but not much. I can deal with roughing it for a while, but others (*cough* girlfriend *cough*) can be less tolerant. With your typical windstorm, we have the option to drive to a friend's house or a motel, or across the state if need be, but when you're snowed in then those options start to decrease.
...

We're also without much of an alternate heat source. One of those Mr. Buddy indoor-safe heaters might be $100 well spent, even if it never gets used. I keep putting one in my Amazon cart and then doing the "save for later" thing. Should probably just get it.

My biggest issue throughout this whole thing was the lack of garbage service. My garbage days are Monday, and the snow has just been so perfectly timed that the brunt hit on back to back Monday's. Going to be going on week 3 for no garbage service.

If this was a long term scenario I would end up burning it in a barrel, but its not that dire yet and I hope to get a pickup this week. I took a few bags of trash to work today, but damn its obvious that most of my neighborhood doesn't have that option.

Really just patience for me. We had enough notice that the few things I wanted I had time to get.
That said, if the power had gone out for multiple days, I'd have some difficulties. Going to have to do some figuring on that.

Cheap whisky. I'll be into the good stuff by this evening.
No work again for tomorrow but at least I'll still get paid. Getting tired of being stuck here with my fussy 1 year old.

A lot of people around us lost power yesterday, and with the way it's coming down right now, I won't be surprised if we lose power at some point this evening. My generator will keep our fridge & freezer running for days if necessary, or we can load everything into coolers and chunk them into the nearest snow bank. We have plenty of firewood for sustained burning of maybe two weeks if we're frugal, but I also have a kerosene heater that'll heat up the entire house if necessary, just needs a lot of wood dust cleaned away from it before we used it.

Our biggest PITA is taking the dog out every few hours, he's a snow magnet and requires warm water to get the snow balls melted away from his lower limbs (and now that the snow's deep enough, his chest & belly too). Since we can't trust him to not snack on his own shit, he needs to be supervised to prevent it.

I just took a measurement where the sun doesn't hit the snow, and we're at 15" total since last Monday (?)...whenever this started, I've lost track.

Getting alarming low on Bourbon.

That's one of the few things I didn't have to worry about. I have enough scotch bourbon and Tennessee Whisky stashed...

I have a wood stove. Tons of food. Tanks of fuel and a well. Im good.

What I dont understand is other people eating habits. After a trip to the store yesterday to get a pound of sausage to make stuffed mushrooms, I noticed that all the sausage and bread was GONE from two different stores.

Is everybody living off of sausage sammiches?

That’s my biggest worry. I’m almost down to the $100 bottle of Scotch I got 10 years ago. I’ve been saving it for a major celebration, like another grandchild, my retirement or my little sister voting Republican....
