Given the right promotional effort a "Weekend Shooting Pool" for Chicago could become more lucrative than Power Ball.

Well, I was in Chicago this weekend and interestingly enough didn't see anyone get shot. We spent Wed-Sun in downtown, saw some outstanding museums (Nazi U-boat U-505 was amazing!), wandered through beautiful parks along the waterfront, ate good food. I was hesitant to go based on all the negative press, but my wife had a conference to go to so the boys and I tagged along. And while I wanted to hate it there, as much for the politics as anything, I really couldn't. It did make me sad to see all of the "no guns allowed" signs on buildings, but I also saw a couple of "fuck Rahm" stickers so that made me happy. I was also impressed that while there were a handful of panhandlers, it was maybe 1/10 of what Seattle has and nobody had tents or dwelling places up.
Of course, we also stuck to major business/tourist areas and didn't go out at night. So that probably helped.

The shootings aren't happening all over town.
It's:
West Garfield Park ( by far the worst ) West Englewood Chatham Englewood South Chicago
West Garfield Park has a homicide rate much higher than
Hunduras Venezuela Belize El Salvador Guatamala

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Garf ... k,_ChicagoQuote: Crime The neighborhood's 21 murders in 2014 occurred at a rate of 116 per 100,000, the highest in Chicago. In a city that sees 2,000 shootings per annum, they occur in West Garfield Park at a rate of 411 per 100,000. Commentators attribute the high crime rate to the number of guns, the lack of police interest or resources, and the loss of accountability which powerful gangs had provided in earlier decades.[7]
In 2016, the violence increased further, with a total of 31 murders, resulting in a murder rate of 172 per 100,000. Additionally, at least 172 people were shot during 2016, resulting in a shooting rate of 950 per 100,000 people.[8] Interesting about the "loss of accountability".
