couple of questions. How is wood going to hold up to constant soaking in water, and also are these heavy enough?

The one I picked up has a bit of weight to it, I would guess between the weight of a roll nickles and pennies, not HEAVY but not a light weight either.

They've got a heavy wax & oil finish, and I try to use dense tropical woods, both for the weight and their natural waxiness. They will require a bit of maintenance as they dry out from the soap & water. I recommend folks use Howard's Wax & Feed to keep a nice waterproof finish on them.

I geared up & gave this a try the other night..

Its going to take some more practice, didn't realize I could bleed so much! I wish someone could have benefitted from my blood donation. Thank God for the steptic pencil and the good clotting gene.

I'm happy with a safety razor now. Saving me money from shaving cream and water. I cut myself more often now but have to admit it's more enjoyable shaving.

Loving mine.

Just got this back from re-plating. Gillette Fatboy replated in rhodium.



Daily shaver is a Gillette slim adjustable - but I like the balance of the fatboy better. Using an Omega "Professional" boars hair brush which is a great cheap brush - big beefy handle and just the right amount of scritch. As for soaps, right now I am enjoying Poraso with menthol.

My razor turned out alright. It holds the blade at a slightly different angle though. So, that took getting used to. At first I was cutting myself pretty good. Now though the only tough spot is my chin. Other than that, it's a good razor.

Drew...stupid question, but do you use the cup as a holder and also have something for the soap?
*got my soap-n-bowl, but no where to place the razor nor brush but ontop the soap

I've got a couple of questions for you guys who are using the razors I made for you. Have you experienced any problems with them other than the shave angle Drew mentioned? I notice that it looks like the handle has rotated on yours a bit Kevin, I aligned the grain so it was presented face on with the edge of the razor, looks like it's been rotated roughly 90 degrees or so from that. Was that deliberate or maybe an optical illusion in the photo? Since yours are among the very first ones I've made, I'm looking for feedback for improvements or problems you've experienced.

The same company I get my supplies from has hangers that'll let you hang your brush & razor so they'll dry properly, as well as shallow stainless bowls & soap to fit if you guys are interested. They also sell badger knots if you're looking for a new brush.
