^ Wow. Shitheads.
I think it's just as well that you just let them go. There are times to play hero, and that wasn't one of them.

I hear those stories all the time. A relative works in the pharmacy of a rite aid. The employees are told not to put hands on them or try to keep them in the store if they do the employee can be either written up or fired. My relative went out side to get a plate# but they had Lready taken off. That person was written up for doing so even though they had worked for rite aid for 15 years.

If this happens so frequently at that store, I’d find another place to buy my beer.

But..... its the closest cheapest store I'm not against stepping in to fill a gap in store policy --- we ALL need to put some fear into these assholes. But the question then becomes what legalities am I willing to burden myself with? Pulling a firearm --- yeah, no. Slashing some tires so they don't get away? Hell yeah --- what charge could I get? Destruction of property? No biggy. What concerned me more is that there was a TEAM of them ---- maybe one of them was packing and willing to do anything to get away? THATS the shit that is un-nerving and concerning.... especially since it wasn't obvious from the getgo --- only after putting it all together.

Three bad guys who may or may not be armed . . . you pull a knife to prevent them from getting away . . . it ain't legal charges that would suddenly be your biggest problem.

JohnMBrowning wrote: So..... I went down to the local Rite Aid to get my 6 pack late this afternoon.... waiting in line behind 3-4 people..... the cashier (one of the managers) picks up the phone - I assumed she was gonna call for another cashier ---- instead its 'CODE PURPLE - CODE PURPLE'...... I, as well as the little old lady in front of me were intrigued..... About 30-45 secs later this little mexican dude with a back pack starts walking thru the door and the cashier runs over and says 'Can I help you find something?' -- he says 'no, I'm good' and scoots out the door. The other manager comes running up and the other says 'Call the police'..... Shoplifting at 3:30 in the afternoon...... They are on the phone trying to get the police - looking out the window for a plate # ----- this fucker was stupid enuff to park right out front ---- thats when I realized I should go out and get the plate #...... dude was just sitting there so it gave me plenty of time.... So I'm coming back into the store and I see an equally sketchy dude (yes- POC) going out quickly --- I give the plate # to the managers and go back to watching the car and sure as shit that second dude gets in the car! The car starts pulling down the lane --- slowly --- when a third really sketchy older duce (again, POC) saunters out the door and walks down the side walk and gets in the car too!
Dumbfounding to see this all play out right in front of me.... After getting the plate, I was cursing myself for not packing - maybe I could have made a difference...... But after seeing that it was a group ripping off the store, I'm thinking it could have gone sideways really fast. Plus it could have really ruined my NYE depending how it went. Reflecting back now, I'm kinda pissed that I didn't pull out my pocket knife and slash a tire on the car.... there was ample time to do that easily - so that the police would stand a better chance of catching up with them. I figure that would have a much better outcome that pulling a CW..... But on the other hand, after finding out that there were three people working together, shit could have gone really bad really easy too...
Pisses me off that it happened right in front of me..... Happy that I at least went out and got a plate # --- the manager said that the Bothell PD are pretty good at catching and prosecuting shoplifters and having a plate # increases the odds of them getting caught greatly. Nah, what you needed was the shoes that Kronsteen, Klebb and the other SPECTRE operatives had in From Russia With Love, the ones with the retractable kicking spikes. OTOH, IIRC the threshold for Felony Vandalism in WA is $50, and since you actually HAVE assets it'd be a trip to Camp PMITA from the "justice"*snort* system.

I'm feeling TW's frustration now after seeing it first hand..... You want to do something more --- but you don't really know what/who is all involved. I give props to TW knowing he's ALWAYS packing and has the control to not pull it.

Me: "When the weather is bad, just stay the hell home if at all possible. Even if you're a good driver, shit happens. JUST STAY HOME." Also me: "Dammit, I've been stuck at home for like a week now, and I *really* want a new coat before the New Years Shoot, it's gonna be really cold." Me, as I leave Macy's at Southcenter and get into my car in the dark, wet, slushly, slippery parking lot and notice a note on my windshield that says, "Please call 415-xxx-xxxx": "Oh fuck. Oh fuck. Oh fuck. This can't be good." Sure enough, it looks like someone "rubbed" my back bumper with their car. The bumper *might* be okay, but the light that's in the bumper sure isn't. Should've heeded my own damned advice, and stayed home. I called the number when I got home. No answer. I left a voice mail . . . hopefully I hear back.

That sucks. But at least it wasn’t worse. They say you have some sort of mishap every 100,000 miles you drive, sooo, you should be good for another 100k

Starting to get cheesed with FedEx chickening out while UPS and USPS are delivering... I had a small order at Cabela's that got split into two shipments, and FedEx has been holding 'em hostage in the Distribution Center all week with no even effort at a revised ETA.
And this after Cabela's sprang for 2-day Expedited shipping on them...

I'm actually less of an asshole when I carry. I have to avoid conflict, not get drawn into name calling sessions, etc. Plus, it pisses them off 10x more when they keep trying new cusswords and names for you and your only response is 'OK, sorry you feel that way'... or 'Yeah,I know, I've heard people tell me that before'.... and the like.. :D Knowing when to pull your gun is important. Knowing when NOT to, doubly so, in my opinion. That's why I started carrying pepper spray.... Ton of situations call for a nice fog, legally, but lethal force isn't legally justified.
