These jackass economists that say the economy is great....

Then why the fuck do I keep getting post dated checks (50%) and people wanting to make payments.

So, I'm @ Winco.. trying to get some peanuts in their bulk food section..

When I come across 2 people... Let's just call them Shaniqua and Lashonda...

They set their carts lengthwise, blocking most of the product in half the damn aisle... a good 12 ft+ of blocked space...

Now, Shaniqua isn't getting anything, she's just standing there, chatting with Lashonda...

'Grrrllll.. I can't wait to get my foodstamps! I'm gonna get me some of them shrimp, and some chips and... '

I immediately stopped listening, as I knew this was only gonna get me madder...

Meanwhile, Lashonda is taking her sweet time getting what she needs, making sure her priority is the conversation, and not the product... also extolling the virtues of her food stamps.

After patiently waiting about 4 or 5 minutes, Lashonda gets the 6 oz of whatever she's getting, in her bag, and pushes her cart away....along with Shaniqua, now opening up the spot where I have been patiently waiting to access...

1. What happened to being ASHAMED of being on gov't assistance? Now it's a fucking status symbol of having gamed the system or some shit?
2. Shit or get off the pot. Get your shit and get out of the way.. If you're not shopping in that aisle, and it's CLEAR that someone is patiently waiting, move the fuck out of the way....

Dude, not all but a good portion of the folks on welfare that I have met take no shame. In their mind they are sticking it to the man and getting paid back for all the oppression they have had to deal with in their life.

It's an examination of why a,person might not perform an action. I never do it, it's merely an outward gesture that to me is an outmoded relic of social conditioning. My patriotism doesn't depend on rote gesture, outward symbolism, or the sheep like ability to act like everyone else. I would question any patriotism that depends on ceremony and symbolic behavior or that demands compliance from others. Some people need ritual to find stability in their beliefs, and some of us have it without stooping to gestures and ritual.

They've been taught that it's an entitlement and a victory over their oppressor

Granola eating ladies driving Kia's, who talk on their phone, while on the freeway, when its raining, and attempt to merge into a lane because they are going to miss their exit if they don't. Fuck them.

Only benefit was that it happened in my POS commuter car which isn't worth much anyways.

I don't get into paranoia - but I've often thought what a good idea it would be to have a audio and or video recording of public encounters... Just for the he said/ she said factor. It's always amazed me how differently some folks remember a simple exchange.
Take my wife (no... that wasn't a Rodney Dangerfield reference) Sometimes .... You know what, I am just going to avoid that whole topic.

I wonder if there is a way to record some of the crazy shi* I see most days without looking like Rick Moranis in "Honey, I shrunk the kids" ...

Once was behind a lady at the checkout that got into a heated argument over what juice her WIC was good for, then proceeded to drive off in her Acura MDX.

:bonghit:

Also had a work "Day of Caring" at a local food bank where multiple people showed up in their Mercedes, BMW, etc and knew the regular volunteers by first name.

:bonghit: :bonghit:

I'll never get it.

What you are getting now is generational government assistance families. So now you are seeing more kids who's family is on welfare or stamps they think it is no big deal because their parents were, and perhaps their grandparents before them. Not saying every family who is now on federal assistance has generational poverty issues, but that is becoming the growing trend. So the stigma of being on welfare isn't as big of a deal as it once was. As kf7mjf said it is an entitlement thing. A very much 'stick it to the man' mentality.

Recently I had a seventh grade student who wrote out a list of life goals. One of the goals was to receive food stamps after she turned 18. Which is sad because she has the academic ability to get out of the situation she is in and better her life. But her choice making in social situations isn't always the best. It's sad to say but she will be lucky to make it to 18 without getting knocked up.
