Phone rings at 0035..Dad? can you come over, a tree just fell on my house. Bring the big halogen light from out back by your shop, I've got chainsaws.
I get dressed and drive the 3/4 mile to his house. an 70 foot alder growing on the City park property 60 feet away has indeed come down on his house. What appears to be minor damage was done by the small branches. We cut the tree up, the neighbors are pissed because the saw is noisey. My son tells them "OK we won't cut it up and you can figure out how to get your fat asses out of this dead ended street in the morning. Neighbors help clean up and thank him.

Thats pretty scary. Glad to hear everyone is ok. Going to be checking neighbors' trees tonight!

UPDATE
Damage was minor, cosmetic for the most part. No holes in the roof, a bent rain guter, replaced a couple asphalt shingles.

That's good. I don't have trees within 500+ft of my house. Happy.

Ever since my first daughter was 10 days old, I've been going to Seattle Children's on a very frequent basis. At first, it was before I started to carry daily, but having a child, especially one with health problems, quickly motivated me to ensure I could protect my family if anything else unthinkable might happen. Once I started carrying I researched Children's policy on firearms and they didn't seem to have one, at least that I could find. In their parent handbooks it said to abide by their rules on weapons, but I could never find the actual rules anywhere. I looked through all the literature I could find, reviewed the Code of Conduct given to me, as well as the one posted at the entries and couldn't find a single thing that said 'no firearms allowed'.

Well, that's now changed. I stopped by today to pick up my daughter's prescription and was greeted by one of these when walking in the door.

I know I shouldn't be surprised at this point, but this one really gets to me. My daughter wouldn't be alive today if wasn't for Seattle Children's and the care they provide, but the security there is a complete joke. I wouldn't bet on any of these guys being able to protect their own selves, let alone other people. The extent of their job seems to be making sure everyone gets a badge that comes in the door, but sometimes they aren't even good at that. At a place where an active shooter scenario might be more likely than most, I just can't wrap my head around this one considering the current state of security there. I've been to hospitals with even less security that have no-go signs, but I was especially disappointed to come across this one.

It's just a feel good sign, do what you need to do and carry on with life. Who really gives a shit what a sign says.

I actually thought of this today when they were talking about Seahawks security on the radio. If a person got caught trying to go through security at the Clink with a pistol, what happens?

They can trespass you, but that sign has NO force of law.

Not really pissed off, more like scared the daylights out of me. Almost hit a deer on Woodinville-Duvall road in the fog. Rolling along, doing about 40 (under the limit, but I also couldn't see too far in front of me), I still didn't see the damn thing until it was right in front of me. Hit brakes, swerved left, probably missed it by about 6-10 feet, water jug flew off the passenger seat and I thought for a moment it burst, but not the case. Had to take a moment to make sure my water jug hadn't burst and that my heart hadn't stopped.

Oh believe me, it has no impact on how I go about my day. It just continues to shock me these types of organizations are content with protecting our children with nothing more than a sign. It's shameful, really. Don't think I'll ever get over that.

Picked my kids up at daycare yesterday, Young guy in a rice burner parks next to me in the handicap spot, no handicap tag. I pull out and he's got a "protected by the 2nd amendment" plate holder.
